1G 4g63 91 gsx Transfer case shaft from trans

The shaft between the persons two fingers in this picture is sliding out with my t case and im not sure if its supposed to move in and out of the trans like that? Should i just pull tell it comes off or is something wrong here? Thanks

Transmission Output shaft came out with Transfercase During Removal

It is meant to have a little in and out play. Refer to the above if it comes all the way out.

i have at least 5 inchs right now and its not all the way out not sure if i have to keep pulling

Refer to the link. A little in and out play is much much less than 5 inches. Sounds like the retaining ball is not in place for whatever reason.

You might have a quarter inch but thats it. That shaft is over a foot long. No reason to pull it out. Get the tcase off the shaft. Put shaft back in and secure the shaft. Plenty of info in the referenced posts.

Elbow grease, vice grips (use your head on where to grab) etc.
