Hey guys I just need help and wondering if you guys think it's a good idea to buy a 1995 gsx. The car is very clean for being a 95 no strut tower rust and barely any frame rust. The car looks like it's in good condition but the only problem that's worrying me is that it has 158000 miles on it. It's not leaking or anything as the owner told me and that the only problem is that there's an exhaust leak coming from the exhaust manifold. Transmission is good no grinds or pop outs but we'll se tomorrow once I check out the car. The car is mostly stock expect for the intercooler, has the 2gb front, aftermarket touch screen radio, aftermarket exhaust manifold, and muffler. So I'm alittle worried because I need a reliable car and I don't have time for a headache right off the bat. Of course I'm willing to work on the car but I don't want to buy something that isn't worth buying and needs major work right off the bat. The owner told me he just did maintenance on the car so that's one thing I wouldn't need to worry about. He afford to throw in a stock cast iron exhaust manifold and a new shift kit for free with the car. So would it be a good choice. He originally wanted $4000 but we agreed on $3800. Is it a smart move?

Ask when the timing belt (TB) was last changed (and water pump which should be done at same time since TB has to come off to do it). TB needs to be changed every 60000 miles or risk bending valves (head job) when it breaks. It's a bit tricky to do but there's a step by step article available here: http://www.vfaq.com/mods/timingbelt-2G.html that if you follow exactly then you can do it.

seems like a reasonable price to me, but yea check in with a mechanic before doing so.

Shift kit....is it an auto??? If so your a lucky person.

Nice clean car it looks like. :thumb: Wonder what the "shift kit" was since it is a standard...

It looks like a good deal to me. I'd hop on it. It's hard to find a GSX in decent shape. I'm guessing a shift kit might be a short shifter with new bushing?
Just a guess

Not a bad deal at all just make sure maintenance has been done.It goes a long way with these cars.listen to luv2rally he is spot on with the questions you should ask. Also its never a bad idea to get a mechanic to check it out a compression test can tell you a lot.
