I just recently got the timing and water pump done by a shop. When I first start the car it runs fine ( Just driving it normally, cant beat it yet.). When the car runs for roughly 5 mins (at about normal running temp, since I got it back the coolant gauge doesn't work!?!?!) The car starts running like crap. When I try to accelerate to keep up with traffic it hardly accelerates and even jerks back and forth and puts out black smoke. And my turbo started making a weird noise, you can hardly hear the turbo when you shift. Since the turbo started to sound different I have parked it. What would cause this?

Is it suppose to be at 10 TDC or 15 TDC? Also when I looked at the sprockets the lines lined up on the sprockets...

With cam sprockets lined correctly, crank should be at #1 TDC compression mark on harmonic balancer (or if can see crank sprocket {which is under the lower timing cover} it should be on it's timing mark).

The cam sprocket marks must not only align with each other but also with the head surface. When all sprockets are on their marks, it helps to place a straight edge horizontally across the center of the cam shaft sprocket attaching bolts. Then you can just align the cam sprocket marks with the ruler.

Here's how cam sprockets should align (notice intake tooth peak aligns with exhaust tooth valley): http://s1092.photobucket.com/user/fourgsixthree33a/media/Misc/cammarks.png.html

It's a bit of a trick to get it right the first time, but all marks have to be perfectly aligned, or the thing has operating issues.

Bet the shop didn't get the autoadjuster set right (maybe used to the old spring loaded adjuster for SOHC setups ) and that's a trick in itself to get just right for all to get aligned.
