So I finally got a hold of a 2g. I have wanted a 2g since before I even got my first 1g. They are kind hard to find in my area. So I was just waiting, and waiting till i found the right one.

The car had a missing timing belt so I figured maybe a bad head, the guy selling it said he was selling it with the notion that the motor is shot. He bought it with the intentions of building it but his ss nova and ss chevelle were getting all the attention. I tried to crank the motor by hand and it wouldn't spin. Oh well I planned on putting my wrecked 6 bolt gsx motor in this thing to give this car new life anyway.

For now the car is going to be mild it's getting: 16g, 950 pte injectors, ecmlink v3, evo 9 fuel pump (rewired of course), the car already had fmic, drilled/slotted rotors, adjustable coil overs (unknown brand) decent looking rims (although I might swap my 1g's enkie evo 9's) I guess I'm just playing by year.

Got the engine out of the car today after work, started raining right as I was getting done. Wonder why this engine stopped running? I have a new front fender (matching color) and will be on the hunt for a new bumber cover hopefully a 2gb talon bumber will appear at a local junkyard.

Got the motor out of my wrecked gsx, started swapping all the components needed from 7 bolt to the 6 bolt, modified the motor mount, keeping the 2g AC so I got that all swapped and yada yada yada didn't get as much done as I was hoping for and I'm sure my neighbors are loving my temporary yard art.

My drive way isn't the biggest and I didn't want to hassle with moving the talon.

Got the 6 bolt in the talon today after work, put the alternator in got the turbo installed and j-pipe going to get fluids tomorrow and start working on the wiring.

Wiring is done for the most part, I mounted the power transistor on the firewall and extended the wires for the coil, wrapped all the wires in electrical tape then put them in the plastic protective wire wrap and taped it again nice and tight. Making progress...

Had the new downpipe come in, and also the 950 injectors but forgot to buy some new seals :ohdamn: bought the injectors from the classifieds and completely spaced the seals.

I got some motivation today via UPS

Got the injector seals in the mail with record time, ordered on a friday and got them the next monday, got the injectors installed yesterday and decided to keep the emissions for the time being just so I don't run into any hassles. The emissions were deleted on the gsx (where the 6 bolt is from) and it passed, but I ran some fake vacuum hoses that were routed to a spot the smog guy couldn't see. He looked at the car for a long time and even pulled out his "books" but eventually he just tested it :D

Did you move the power transistor to the firewall to protect it from heat?

Great work btw!! Keep us posted

I moved the power transistor to the firewall because I wanted to keep the wires I had to extend to a minimum, plus there was a perfect spot on the firewall which fit like a puzzle piece. Thanks for the complement!

As of now, all i need to do to fire her up is radiator install, fresh oil, and of course set up link for injectors. Getting excited!
Still need to put the axles back in but saving that for last!

I plan on getting a better fmic soon but just want to get this thing going first, also need to get/find/make a proper recirc tube/hose. And of course I am going to tidey up the wires a bit.

Got everything back together while filling the fluids, I went to put the coolant in and found out that the waterpipe was damaged in the wreck! Crazy because the front of the water-pipe still looked pretty good. Pretty excited about that! Looks like I'm off to the junkyard tomorrow after work. Between all the junkyards there was only one turbo 1g so hopefully nobody else needed a water pipe!!!

Actually got the water pipe from the turbo 1g at the junkyard. Somebody was nice enough to remove it and set it by the strut tower :D. I hit it with the wire wheel for one to make it look better and for two to make sure there wasn't a sneaky hole or crack in it somewhere. Got it all wrapped up so it looks like I just need to get a battery.

Got the car fired up, last saturday night. It didn't leak anything so that's good. Wasn't really running the greatest so I did a log and noticed that the stock 2g maf wasn't reading airflow. Gonna trade it out with a spare evo 8 maf I have.

Got the car ready for exhaust, It needs a new cat... I know I know just straight pipe it :nono: got to be emission compliant for now. Clocked the intake pipe a bit and found a piece of radiator hose that fit the recirc pretty well. This thing sits pretty low, I like the look but I like a little clearance too. We'll see on height later. Threw my evo mas on registering air now so the car is actually idling decent.

My neighbor came over (have only met him twice now, he's a new renter across the street) He just wanted to see what I was up to since I had motors out of two cars. He said, "I notice a lot of your cars are all the same kind..." "Yep I like them" I said :D

Guess I forgot to put the new blinker covers in... Thanks picture.
And of course that ugly fender that I already have the replacement for.

Finally got to drive my 2g today, I gotta say... the stock 2g tan leather seats... not very comfy. Definitely going to have to upgrade those sometime soon. I had a coolant leak pop up which I fixed and I got my new cat hooked up from the exhaust shop. It doesn't have a resonator like my 1g so it is a bit louder but it's a 3" Megan downpipe to high flow magna flow cat to magna flow muffler. Sounds pretty good but compared to my 1g is a bit loud. I have to do something with the ride height though, have to come in at a crazy angle to clear my driveway. Going to raise it up just a bit then get some new tires and an alignment, then I think I will be good.

So I was dinking around with the car and the wife said looks like you are going to have to change this belt soon. All the belts were new except the timing belt which had approximately 20k miles. So I walk around hoping it wasn't the timing belt but sure enough...

The belt looked good when I put it on and that's the only reason I used it considering I knew the actual mileage that was on it. Somewhere somehow it got a little nick in it. Lucky for me the PO threw in a complete belt set so I already had a Gates T-belt. While I was at it, I went ahead and installed the AC belt tensioner that I bought from Miller Import Parts (Stangmurdera) I wan't sure what the part looked like since it was missing from the car when I bought it and he went above and beyond to make sure I knew I was getting the right part, and then sold it for a great price!! Now I just have to get the system charged up for the upcoming triple digit heat coming!!

That's not rust on the fender either, it's a friendly tree that likes to share its... something  :hmm:

Threw my evo 8 fuel pump in and did the old rewire. Got it all put back together and what do you know I smell fuel; I figured it was one of the lines. I crawl on the ground expecting to see gas leaking from the line, but no, it was running down the tank from above and on to the ground. So I take the seat and cover off and find the problem...

Looks like I will be getting a new seal from stm, while I am ordering stuff, I might as well get a well needed camber kit as well. It is kind of funny, I did the pump yesterday and did not smell or see any leaks. Today after the rewire, I immediately smelled the leak. I guess the old tired seal did like the extra voltage going to the pump.

Got the rear camber all situated; it looks a lot better now as it was borderline stanced looking. The front are actually not too bad and from what I have been reading, a little front camber is good handling wise. Checking out a new pair of rims soon and with that will come tires and alignment so I will see if I actually need a front camber kit or not. If it's too far out of spec I will have to get one. I also picked up a used laptop specifically for ecmlink. $50 bucks got me 2g of ram and I think a 250g hardrive. Now I don't have to worry about messing up my nice laptop :hellyeah:.

Hopefully my fuel pump gasket (seal) gets here quick, I ordered it from STM (first purchase from them) so we will see how they work. And I am still waiting on my VRSF front mount, when I ordered it the website said ETA late june, now the website says ETA late July. Making me a little weary as I am trying to get this car done-ish before school starts back up. I work a lot and the program I am in will be about 30 hours of class a week this next semister so wrenching will become minimal. Once I get my degree... I think my cars might get a bit more fancy!!!

STILL!!! waiting on my vrsf fmic. This is getting frustrating. But I did order a snow meth kit which will/should be here today. It shipped tuesday and I will be satisfied with the shipping time... Not to shabby. I will also be swapping out the evo 8 pump with the evo 9 pump I just got from a local. Apparently I got some misinformation regarding how much the evo 8 pump can handle. Ended up finding the actual flow chart and said :ohdamn:.

The STM fuel pump seal ended up getting lost in the mail (go figure) so they sent another one. I got the new one they sent the second time and the next day the first one they sent showed up. The printing label was all "blurred" and I am surprised it even made it here (eventually). As instructed by STM I wrote return to sender and sent it back.

Got the alcky injection all installed minus the actual nozzles due to not having a bung (thought it came with the kit) dsmkauai told me about a great site http://www.siliconeintakes.com/ they have pre bunged pipes.

This looks like a nice spot for the pump.

Made some bends in some scrap metal and secured the pump. I could have made it a little prettier but since its hidden I said F-IT.

Might end up getting a bigger tank for convenience but we will see

Can't even tell ^^

Got the little lights mounted by the gauges.

Only have two more weeks until school starts :sosad:
I have new rims on the way next week, hub rings, lug nuts and of course the long awaited arrival of the vrsf fmic but that might have to sit for a while :| the fmic on the car is a 3" core and with the alcky injection it will be fine. Pretty much got it because 91 octane is all we get here.
last but not least a good cleaning!!!

So I ended up manning up and did the vrsf install after work one day last week. It would have bugged me having it just sitting there :tease:staring at me

Here is the old one, looks like something similar to punishment racing

A little comparison

And the finished outcome with my ugly ass front bumper cover. Some day I will be able to find one in better shape. Somehow all the junkyard 2g's have bumper covers in worse shape. And while I was at it I swapped that banged up fender for the good color matching fender I scored at the yard.
