So I am starting to figure out a contingency plan for my 2G block. (See my rattling thread) I am going to be pulling it all apart today to see if there is any damage to the head...which I think the sound is coming from the block. So IF my balance shaft isnt the issue, what is my best course of action? How difficult is it to rebuild the motor and is it just worth buying a new block. Where is a good place I can buy a re-manufactured 7-bolt block?

oem BSEK, have machine shop polish the crank, hone block, surface head and block, slap in a new oem oil pump, rings and bearings and be good to go?
That would be the proper way to do a "garage rebuild"

A remanned block will go for more than what rebuilding yours would, a "new used" block will just give you trouble soon enough.

Are you wanting more than 400hp in the future though? If so get some rods, pistons and arps.

Easy to rebuild, if you have a place to do it, tools, knowledge and some balls.

I'm looking at 300hp. My next upgrade was going to be a 16G, 660 injectors, FMIC, and SAFC. My head is stock and was just rebuild, ported, and polished.
I have a machinist near me who does good work. I'll have to call and get a quote.

I have a 1G 7BOLT so, would I need to get the 1G rings?

If you are considering doing a rebuild, start with a fresh used block and go from there. They are cheap and then you can put in upgraded internals, high-tolerance bearings, all the goodies. That's exactly where I am with mine right now. Make sure to get everything done where (either you or a machinist) check all tolerances and fitments and make sure that they're to spec. As for the rings, just use ones for a set of 7 bolt pistons and you'll be fine.

It's hard to say what the best course of action is until he pulls it apart. My earlier suggestion was a bit of a worst-case scenario (although it seems that with these cars you can never have too many spares of ANYTHING :p).

OP, it would be best to inspect everything first and see what your situation is. If your block checks out OK, as Steve said, then a rebuild of your current bare block is a good idea. If there is significant damage i.e. the bores are in BAD shape then you might actually save a bit of money by getting a well-treated second hand bare block. It all depends. Buying a short block (bare block+internals but minus head) might also be a good idea if you can get a built one from a vendor cheaply.

.....6bolt swap..... Mayyyyybeeeee LOL I'm in the middle of doing one myself after mine whent to crap not that bad to do actually

+1 on jafros videos on youtube. Very helpul. What year is your block out of? If it's an early 7 bolt you may want to consider swapping to 6 bolt or later version 7 bolt with the split thrust washer design.
