There's a 2g talon tsi near me. I'm thinking of picking it up. It looks clean. I've never owned an eclipse or talon before. So just wondering what I should make sure to check and look out for. Thanks

Haven't seen it yet but the guy says it's rust free. But we will see.

Here's his for sale ad: http://elmira.craigslist.org/cto/5133256676.html

He said the list of mods include
BOV
16g turbo
Newer clutch
Stereo stuff
Newer motor with 90k on it. Body has 130k
Rebuilt bottom end
Some other stuff but I can't remember what he said and I can't find what he sent me.

Is this a fair price?

Thank you so much. That was definitely a help. Like I said I'm new to these cars and don't know much about them. Been in the Honda scene and now the German. Not ever dsm though

I've been looking for a clean 2g dsm for a few months now myself. That looks pretty clean and the price looks good. It's very hard to find a gsx or a tsi in good shape for under $5. If I lived closer I'd check it out myself.
Good luck

He said that its leaking oil into the radiator. I'm not sure what that could mean so I didn't even go look at it. No something I want to deal with.

It could just be a hose that needs to be replaced or a bigger job could also be a bad radiator. If it would be either one of those things it wouldn't be a big deal to fix.

I would personally look for a mostly stock car. Seeing all those modifications and engine parts pictures would lead me to believe the seller is giving up on a build because something went wrong on the initial build.

Oil in the coolant would most likely be a bad head gasket, could be from improper assembly or a number of other reasons.

I recently bought a clean 2g dsm, I have been looking for one for over 5 years........ I wanted a car that was garage kept and not abused, I was really picky but it was such a thrill to finally get the car I wanted.

My talon is pretty much showroom condition and I wouldn't let it go for less than 7k. If they are clean and unmolested, they are worth it.

That's about what I was expecting to see coming around the corner in the market, it's hard to say if that will be a 5 years away or so but the market is very depleted, there just isn't enough demand right now though to push up prices. Hell turbo mr2's here are only getting $5k-$7k for good working ones

This is one of the cleaner ones I've seen for sale. California or Arizona cars are the only ones worth this money or more IMHO.

Awd cars in southern states usually hit the auction market and go directly north leaving few behind. Auto and 180k though Is nothing to get excited about.

If you're dedicated shock tower rust shouldn't scare you. We have NT cars stacked by the dozens in junk yards down south here
