Not new to DSM but was gone from it for about 7years from when i bought my Evo 9. So i picked up a almost stock 99 gsx from an old friend of mine. its all stock except for evo 3 turbo, 750 injectors and DSMLink. if you must ask the turbo is due to the t-25 failing and the other two items were hand me downs from my original setup.

got the car and installed that evo3 no problems. car idles good and drove fine again car needs tuning still so i just drove it easy for a couple miles. on the drive to get the ac system recharged i ran into some over heating issues. I think this was due to only having one radiator fan and 1 cheapo eBay fan. Need to get the regular ac condenser fan still. and it was 110 degrees out that day.

anyways i got that somewhat handled went about business with the ac person. on the way home the alternator belt snapped taking with it the power steering belt too. called up a friend and we bought the alternator belt and replaced it on the side of the road. not a big deal, fired up the car and no issues temps. were fine. Maybe about 10 miles down the road doing 70mph on I-10 the car started to knock faintly.

so when i make it home put the car in the garage and at idle the noise is not there. but if i hit the gas to anything past 1k rpm the noise is crazy. it sounds like its coming from underneath the valve cover to me. there are no CEL and the idle is fine.

now back before buying the Evo my 96 gst spun a rod bearing at the track. this almost sounds the same except back then the noise was bad even at idle and CEL was on with cylinder misfire if i recall correctly.

ill check timing marks tomorrow hopefully if time permits. Any ideas?
