Someone posed a question to me on another forum about my car that I couldn't answer: how do you preload the shaft section of the diff with the bolts that come with a Frontline fabrication rear diff cover? I don't know the first thing about preloading anything. Any info would be appreciated.

Kisner's not a member here I don't think (the lone guy behind Frontline Fabrications), but Tim Zimmer, twicks69, should have the answer for you. PM him.

I'm assuming you're wondering what the torque spec should be on those preload bolts? I want to say Andrew told me they should just be snug and then locked into place with the lock nuts but that was last May and I'm not sure anymore.

Btw to whomever is asking make sure to suggest they put some thread sealant on the preload bolts. Mine leaked.

Yeah. The idea is that they are to give extra support to the diff braces inside to prevent them from torquing around and letting the diff shift around and destroy itself. They position themselves to sit on the braces themselves perpendicularly.

So I have the same question about what to torque the pre-load studs to in my cover. I torqued the to 20 ft/lbs and tightened the nut and not sure if all the noise I hear in the rear is from the solid diff bushing or the excessive torque I put on the studs? Anybody get a torque rating on this?

Same question ^^^^^
