Knocking after 3k rpm

Last night I did a pull in second gear, heard rattling metal soon after. Not sure what happens, popped hood and everything seemed legit. Car began dying every stop and rpms drop way low. A knocking starts after 3k rpm but is not there at idle. I haven't pulled vc or anything yet just curious to some possible diagnostics on what it could be. Still spools but know knocking is horrible after 3k till I shift then comes back 3k and up in every gear. Suggestions would be awesome!

I HOPE its not a rod, I have one that started out as tick that sounded like a lifter.....soon turned out getting louder and is a rod. I sure hope that is not your case. I seem to pick up a good car and a week later these things happen.

My buddy said he thinks its a stuck lifter in the head so this coming weekend I'm going to tear into it. If a rod is the case, probably better to just buy a new motor? Then slowly build old one?

Yup could be a broken lifter. Best to do is open the valve cover to inspect the head.

Just got in my ITM revised lifters. Hopefully I can get them put in tomorrow to see if that was is but currently running into an fmic piping issue want to keep my fogs.. Any suggestions on kits to get etc.? Previous owner rigged the old fmic to shit..

Did you just buy lifters without even diagnosing whether or not you have catastrophic failure of your rotating assembly?

A rod knock is typically present regardless of RPM. I also doubt you car would be running very long in that condition.

Actually I assumed it is the lifters. So I went ahead and ordered them. Its not like they are insanely priced. Mise well do them and get them done to prevent future possibilities! Thanks for looking out for me though :thumb:

It's a good upgrade regardless, and from experience, cross your fingers brah, and get it done the right way the first time
