Hey guys,
I'm gathering some the info on the various AWD parts I need for my Spyder AWD swap. I already stripped the donor car and I have everything I need. However I want to replace some “wear and tear” parts (donor had 135K) before I install them on my Spyder. I want to change the rear AWD (w/ABS) wheel bearings. I’ve seen some guys just replace the actual wheel bearing – pressing required where others just buy the full hub assembly and bolt it in.

Based on CAPS, I see the only OEM replacement is to replace the full hub assembly (MR403968) and the cheapest I found them online are $136.10 each.

Does anyone have any recommendation on where I can source these cheaper? I’m open to OEM replacement parts by either just replacing the bearing (pressing it in) or buying the whole hub assembly? I still want quality parts just $270+ for two bearings seems kind of excessive?

Thanks!

Did you try JNZ? Best prices on OEM stuff.

Non-OEM, I usually try Rockauto

housegsx, I saw your write up the other day - great post!! Very helpful!!
Here's my thinking .... what are your thoughts?

Timken part # 512181 are $81.79 each --> one would need 2 = $163.58
Wheel studs are 1.64 each --> one would need 10 = $16.40
Thus total spend on parts would be about $179.98

"Mitsubishi Parts" | Online Parts & Accessories Catalog has new hub assemblies (MR403968) for $136.10 each X 2 = $272.20

Is the difference of $92.22 ($46.11 per side) worth all the effort (and time) to press in just the bearings? Not to mention your not getting OEM parts??

What are your thoughts?

When I searched that part by your part # it came up as "lancer - awd 2003 - 2006"..

I wouldn't put much faith into the accuracy of that catalogue, it's very vague. I'd be willing to bet for $136 all you are getting is the bearing. When I was looking I did a ton of searching and for the most part it would end up being 2 1/2 - 3 times the cost to replace the entire assembly instead of just the bearing. Meaning $500+ instead of <$200 for the both.

I bought all four of my hub assemblies off ebay. Way cheaper at the time. One year later and they're still good. Mine were 2wd though. Control arms too.

Nope, I can verify for $136 you are getting a complete Hub assembly with studs installed, I have two new ones sitting on my floor infront of me ;)

As a side note, quite being so cheap Mark, how many hundreds are you already ahead since starting this swap :p

Ha, good one Daren!! ROFL Good one!! ROFL
You must have forgotten that I'm a Professional Buyer and I'm always looking for creative cost saving opportunities ;);););)

I guess I'm going with new OEM hubs and bearings (MR403968) for $136.10 :thumb:

Really? Rear AWD ones? Did you order from the place Peepers posted a link to? I didn't know they were the same part as the Evo 8 uses. If so, this isn't a bad deal.

What if I wanted to do front ones? I don't see those listed. Where can you get the entire front awd assemblies for cheap?

housegsx, I can almost guarantee that Daren ordered his parts from "Mitsubishi Parts" | Online Parts & Accessories Catalog – we've both used them for OEM parts in the past. If Daren didn't order from them he sure did order part #MR403968 as we’re both doing the AWD swap at the same time – exchanging information and ideas. I was just trying to see if there was a more cost effective solution but looks like the price of just the bearing (aftermarket) vs. the whole assembly is very minimal that it only makes sense to order the whole assembly.

The front OEM part number for the full hub assembly with wheel bearing (RS, GS, GST or GSX) is MR455004. It’s listed at #155.30

Hope this helps?

Daren, how about posting a photo of the OEM rear hub assembly with the mfg part number??

Yes Erik, complete rear awd hubs. I did get them from mitsubishiparts.com as well. Like Mark posted MR455004 is the OEM part # for the complete front replacement & they are abit more, like he posted. Here are pics of the new rear hub assembly's

Wish I would have known this sooner when I had to replace the one my gsx and one on my girlfriend's tsi. Paid $160ish per bearing assembly for BCA National. That price is after my 20% discount.

Try Mitsubishi Graveyard They sell parts used and, in most cases, in good condition. They may sell them with new bearings pressed in. They rebuild a lot of mechanical parts for resale to ensure they are in good condition. It would cost more then a junkyard part. But significantly less then new OEM parts.

It's really a personal preference. Know the are good and buy OEM or go with a vendor and put your faith in them.

Beautiful! Thanks. That'll help me out the next time I'm in need of one. :thumb:

I just bought a pair of rear hubs from JNZ, price $122 each,

well... the initial cost was nice and low (138 each), but after paying the 38 for shipping (that was ok) and the additional 96!!!!!!!! in taxes, duty, brokerage (stupid UPS) I'm ready for a smooth ride again.
AGH! we need to boycott UPS... it's criminal!!! sorry about the rant...

Did they raise the price on the rear awd wheel hubs? I'm getting ready to order and it says they are153.88 ? Part # MR403968. I'm still gonna order though, just askin.

A quick check at JNZ and the price is $149.07. According to my notes, back in Jan 2009, JNZ had them listed at $149.07 so it looks like the pricing remains the same. Something's wrong with "Mitsubishi Parts" | Online Parts & Accessories Catalog so I can't check what they're charging but if JNZ is holding the same prices, I would assume that "Mitsubishi Parts" | Online Parts & Accessories Catalog is as well. Back in Jan 2009, I picked up a pair of bearings from "Mitsubishi Parts" | Online Parts & Accessories Catalog for $138.49 each.

Also Mentor Mitsu (Mentor Mitsubishi Parts) wants $144.26 each

Hope this helps

Just a 5 year dredging of the graveyard here. JNZ seems to have the best price. Will run you about $340 for a set of rear hub AND bearing assemblies shipped
Not too bad so long as they come with the studs. If not, ebay will be better. One seller on there with 8 left. With shipping it's 360 bucks

These old mitsu parts are just a nightmare to find. I had no idea what you AWD guys were going through haha. Shit gets crazy expensive on the smallest parts.

*You can NOT get the hub through oreilly or autozone. They only sell the bearings. As of 6/2015

When I bought my set 2GB AWD front and rear from JNZ ,they were all complete with lugs. I got the 4 bolts that hold them from www.boltdepot.com.

Who is the manufacturer for these hub assemblies off Ebay ? The ones I've gotten are Centric, I think manufactured in MX . The funny thing is that this is exactly what I would get at the wheel/tire shops, but with a +++ markup. They are OK, but I always wonder about the quality compared to OEM.
