I have been having a problem recently where I will drive my car, then in about 3 miles the cars looses power starts sputtering and backfiring and then dies and will not restart. I have done this twice in 2 days.
I start from my house, drive a 1/2 mile then turn right, drive a mile, stop at a stop sign, turn right and drive for 1.5 miles into town. I turn right and drive about 1/10 of a mile and it starts sputtering and backfiring. It starts off driving fine, then it just starts acting up....I'm lost :(
After the first incident, I went out to the garage the next morning and it starts right up. ???
Any ideas?

Boost leak test. Check for cracked manifold or turbine housing possibly causing a leak. When's the last time it was tuned up? And check engine light? Also make sure the maf and cas are plugged in properly. :)

If you have trouble restarting, unplugging the maf will get you to restart and limp home, which means a intercooler pipe probably separated or a coupler is cracked. The pipe in the passenger wheel area is often the culpret.

So I played a bit with my odbII bluetooth scanner and found that once the engine reached the optimal temperature and went into closed loop, Bank 1 Sensor 1 died and went to 0.0v. It was reading 4.3v or somewhere in there until closed loop. The car (just sitting idling) started sputtering and died because it flooded its self. I was also monitoring engine load, MAS, TPS, RPM, coolant temp, and like I said Bank 1 Sensor 1. I also pulled 2 codes P0130 and P0135 - both of which refer to bank 1 sensor 1. So it is pretty safe to say that my upstream o2 is dead. Time to buy a denso!

So i replaced my o2 sensor with a Denso OEM sensor. I started it up today and it ran longer, but it still hit the same issue. It went into closed loop and flooded its self out. It sat and idled great at 850rpm for 20 mins no issues at all. then it got up to 98C (208F) and then is started stuttering and stalled out. I knew what was happening just before it started the problems because I could smell the gas. I watched fuel trim from bank 1 sensor 1 (upstream o2) the entire time. It stayed at 4.7% then went to 0 just before it died. Any help here would be great. I also unplugged the MAF right after and the car swouldnt start. Thanks
