Put together this duct and airbox recently. Mock up and test fit:

That's awesome work. I plan on doing this once I get my 2gb rolling. The engine and head are at the machine shop currently. Nice build

I am jealous. That looks real clean.

Thanks for all the compliments guys. It's been working out great thus far.

Hey, I have been thinking on doing the same thing for quite some time as well. But, what if instead of being a closed box its an open one with a grill on the hood, to create a tunnel type thing to perhaps reduce turbulence if there is with what you built. Im not trying to bash your design by any means, I think it looks great and it does what its supposed to. But maybe at high speeds there is a lot more air going inside the box than what the turbo can take? I don't know, I'm just asking. what are your thoughts on that. I was planing on cutting up my hood and put a a grill off of a nissan 200sx they had two, a long one and a small one. I have both but the long one is to long, I think it looks better but wouldn't be efficient. I want it to perform. Any thoughts or ideas guys?

Have you noticed any quieting of the cone filter sucking noise since you boxed it? I just put a FIPK on and can't stand the sucking noise which overwhelms everything including the EVO BOV.

I've never used an open filter. Before I went to speed density I used a modified stock air box with the same duct.

I highly doubt I'm getting more air in the box than what the engine is using. Keep in mind this is an autocross car that never really sees speeds over 70mph. Depending on the hood vent design, you would either be creating a vacuum pulling air out of the box. Our you would end up getting turbulent air entering the box. I feel the sealed box is the most effective solution and the most common design I see on racing applications.

Ah ok thanks.

Been working fine. Devin gave me compliments on it when I got tuned at Boostin this fall. That's an opinion I'll hold with high regard. Guess I'll add a pic of the engine bay completed while I'm here.

I only did the design and mock up. My friend has a fab shop so I just took the cardboard templates to him and he made them. He has the programs saved on his plasma table, so they could be reproduced. But if I was going to start selling them there is a few slight tweaks I would want to make first, just to get perfect fitment.
