Hi all!

It's time to change the extremely-ugly and smallish wheels on my 1996 Eclipse GS with something better. I've got my eyes on this particular model that comes as OEM for the Dodge Stealth/3000GT: http://www.wheelsandcaps.com/p-21641-aluminum-alloy-wheel-rim-17x85-65731.aspx

Thing is, after a full day of researching about tires and wheels, I am still fairly confused on what can and wont fit on the Eclipse. Mine has the stock suspension components and currently has 15 inch wheels with 195/60/15 tires. I do not know what the default offset is.

Do you think these rims will fit without hitting the suspension parts and without having to use spacers? Also I'm planning on putting 225/45/17 tires on them. I really want to get rid of that humongous gap and avoid tire stretch.

Thanks!

The 3/S 17 x 8.5 will not fit a 2g with 245 tires on. the offset is like +42 or 46mm. They hit the spindle. I do not think the 225 tire will fit either. Look into EVO Enkei if you want an OE upgrade.

Thanks for the replies. I fiddled around with an online calculator which said that if I put these wheels on with 225/45/17 tires in stead of the stock 2G ones, I will gain 16 mm more on each side of the wheel (in terms of width). I think there is still enough clearance for that.

Also EVO Enkei's and the likes are really expensive and rare where I'm from. My budget is fairly small and the dude is offering the Stealth OEM ones for $174 total. Plus I really like the swirly wheels, they look good on the Eclipse.

The only thing I would worry about is the +46 offset...typically if you are going a wider rim(8.5 in) then you'd want a lower offset to balance out the position but our factory offset is +40. Worst case scenario you could buy a crap rim from the junkyard and test fit it, I've done stuff like that before. As for the tire, a 225/45/17 would fit on an 8.5 inch wide wheel; might stretch a little

Right, well after almost a week of thinking, measuring, calculating and envisioning, I finally decided to buy the rims. Ultimately they were dirt cheap so I wont lose much, right?

Well, THEY FIT! They fit perfectly on the EUDM all-stock non-turbo FWD 1996 Eclipse. The distance between the rim edge and knuckle rod is the same both in the front and back; around a centimeter or so. We then tried testing out different tire combinations, and the one that fit best without any rubbing was a Continental Contact 2 and 3 tire, 225/45/17. The tire wall is literally less than 5mm away from the knuckle, but it does not rub at all, which is good.

At the same time the whole wheel/tire combo sticks out almost a centimeter more outward than stock (ET35 7J), which sits flush with the form of the car. It does not look inward at all, like some people may have thought because of the high ET. As for larger tires, I am not sure if it will be possible to fit a wider/higher tire on these rims and on this particular model unless you tweak it or use spacers (bad idea generally).

In conclusion, 1993 swirly 17" Stealth wheels DO fit a 2G FWD, just like they fit the 1G. They weigh 13 kg (28.66 lbs) each, which is quite a lot, but my car is slow as f*** anyway so at least it looks sexy.

Here's a few pics I snapped today. I couldn't really fit my phone to show the spacing, but you get the idea. Also excuse the dirty look, I hand washed it afterwards! http://imgur.com/a/79niY#0

Sorry to resurrect this but the stealth rims fit the 2g and you say that they will fit a 1g as well? There is a set for sale by me now that I thought about getting but I don't want to pull the trigger unless I know they can fit the 235/45 tires I got for free. Anyone test this or no? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
