Yeah, too many times these kids get wrapped up in trying to go after these big numbers they can't afford. They think they need all these expensive parts, when truth be told they could have spent way less, had a running car and enjoyed it more than never driving it.

The shops are not helping the matter either, pushing parts to make some $$. These kids come in here and get talked into some $700 cams and $400 springs when a $200 set of regrinds and $80 springs would do just fine.

I just added up the cost of the parts on my car when I went 10's on a stock block last fall. It was about $2000 in parts to added to a car in running condition. There's people that spend more than that on a head and cams for a 16G. :(

Then you get the ones that get the car built and have no money for spare parts, and end up parting it out for pennies on the dollar.
Amen bro!

That's why I build own transmissions after 2 years my 3rd gear hub decided to explode. Here's progress on new build.

Kelvin, the large diameter 3rd/4th hub and slider is great for street cars but it can also implode the hub or shatter the 3/4 slider. Thankfully it also takes the large diameter springs to help with pressure on the keys. The other alternative is to faceplate 3rd and 4th gears and get the associated 3/4 hub and slider which is much beefier, and then change the 3/4 rail to the 91-92 FWD rail (MD738509), then clearance and swap the rail end with an Evo 3 forged rail end (MD749456), and then use an Evo 3 steel 3/4 shift fork (MD749755).

If you plan on using your large diameter 3/4 synchro setup, then grab the evo 3 rail for the rail end and grind it down to clearance the 5/r rail end, then swap it onto your FWD 2G 3/4 shift rail. It will help prevent breaking the rail end.

those gears look nice! very impressed you got two years from last tranny with the power you make.. I agree with tim on the 3/4 hub slider is the weak link in the trans. the ones I have broke shatter and took out the whole trans. not like breaking gears which sometimes end up lucky with just a couple broke gears. the sliders always shatter at full power. several years back there was a guy solving the slider problem by machined chromoly rings and pressing them on the slider. effectively making it beefier. might be something to consider before assembling this new trans.

Tim thanks for the recommendations next do you carry those parts?

LOL, of course I do! The only thing I don't have here currently is the faceplated gears or the associated hub and slider; that's liberty stuff. The 3/4 hub and sliders are being machined currently.

We run our alternators in the back(homemade brackets) so we canclear our exhausts for our large bottom mount turbos.

Because you know, 1000hp mitsubishis and creature comforts go hand in hand.

Off-topic, for you guys running high horsepower like this, and driving your cars on the regular, do you have A/C?
Yeah I have A/C, I condition my air via my window LOL. No ac for me.

Tim after pondering my options , I call liberty gear and I must say that their price to face plate the gear is not that bad 400 for 3/4 with hub slider. The only issue is how long it takes they told me at least 5 weeks which mean its that time or longer. Therefore I am looking into the 3/4 hub slider conversion. I had a 1990 fwd transmission in the shop and decided to break it down to examine these hd gears and hub and I must say they are indeed thicker. My question is since I have all the parts rail, hub and slider and shift fork, are there anything I need to know to use them, like teeth angle ect. upon initial inspection they seem as if they will fit. Another question you say you can machine the hub or gear to accept the evo 3 3/4 double sychro does this weaken the hub slider any? I can't imagine and am excited that if I lasted 2 years on the weaker gears how much long the tranny will last with the early model hd gears and hub slider. below is a picture reference for how much thicker the hd gears are over the later 93-99 gears.

For what it's worth, I'd personally split it between auto and manual cars. Generally the autos make about 18% less than the 5-spd cars as we have seen in a ton of people doing trans swaps. Get into a loose converter and high rpm and we're talking more like 20%.

It is also very different between dynos. I saw 852whp on a dynapack and ran about 130mph at the 1/8th. I saw about 770whp on a dynojet for same trap at the 1/8th. On the force eng mustang dyno 660whp on slicks was 138mph in the 1/8th. That is the same dyno where I just put down 821whp on drag radials, which will help the numbers probably a couple or few percent.

As far as I'm concerned though, the real dyno is 660ft or 1320ft long! Everything else is just a tuning tool.

A gazillion whp. Personally, Kevin's auto fwd is a monster and is always fwd.

Take me off the list since I just play around on occasion in fwd and am normally awd.

I have only done 132 in the 1/8 with a 3300# pig.

FYI for those of you that dont know, the over all fwd gear ratios are the best you can find. Better than the awd converted trans with the correct size tire and way better than the awd trans with the dog box ratios. A couple downfalls to the fwd ratios are that the 1st gear isnt long enough so theres a good gap between 1 and 2. Of course the weak trans that nobody has found fixes for, yet. And there is literally nothing you can swap around to make the trans better from other stock trans since it shares the same parts as all the other F5m33 trans. Now the honda guys have some fixes for their weak trans such as the 5th gear eliminator gear cuff, billet bell housing, and billet mid section. These have all been on my mind as I make my way up the power scale.

As for the fwd whp record. Since 2001 ive never seen a 1000hp fwd 4G powered car. There will be some coming up soon that will be at that level. Seems like theres is this huge fwd movement. Im happy to see that since I have race my awd before and ditched it for this fwd platform. Gonna be interesting finding all the true weak links.

This statement is not true! There are differences in the f5m33 transmission gears. Another pic posted for reference below . To my surprise and after speaking at length with a few reputable builders there is interest in the combination of gear mixing that I am doing. One echoed my same thoughts that if my older trans held up to two years of 600lbs feet of torque with the weaker gear and fragile hub sleeve that it will definitely hold up way longer with the early thicker gear and hub! He said that since so many wants double synchros there was never a need to use the single synchro in any of their performance builds and that even the early model transmission damaged he has seen was all shift fork breakage. Replacing the aluminum shift fork with the steel shift fork is also evidence that the parts in the f5m33 transmission are not the same.

Here is a link which has a great amount of resource in helping us to determine which transmission parts Mitsubishi used in what years for the f5m33 plateform tooling cost influence the change in parts over the years with the gears from the 1990 being the strongest some transmission up to 1992.5 had the same strong 3/4 small synchro hub slider but went with the weaker gear 1992.5 and later had the weak 3/4 gear with large synchro ring with weak 3/4 hub slider. the 1990 and 1991 gears and hubs for the 3rd and 4th gears are apparently the thinner gears but with the stronger 3/4 hub slider small single synchro versions as 1990. Just hover your mouse over the numbered part and it will light up the part numbers in red an reflect the various years. http://www.microsofttranslator.com/BV.aspx?ref=IE8Activity&a=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.neoriginal.ru%2Fcat%2Fchrysler%2Fpart_89D_94%2F21M_896210000700_89621000700

Thats not what I was talking about but ok. We all should know by now that theres differences with 90s over the other years. I was referring to the fact that we dont get the "evo" style upgrades and different gear ratios.
