I got my rear brakes off but for the life of me i cant compress the caliper to put it back together. Am i missing something? Have to get this tldone today if therea any help i need it!

I got mine at harbor freight, Im sure all the parts stores would carry them too.
Sometimes they turn really easily so try to get something to turn them. Maybe some pliers of some sort.

Do not try to compress them! They need to be screwed in.

The cheaper way:
Take a pair of needle nose pliers, fit the tips into the V shape grooves on the piston, and turn. Turn them slowly and make sure the pliers don't slip and rip the rubber boot. Good Luck, it should be easy from here.

The safest way:
Purchase the brake tool for this application from most any auto parts supplier. The one I purchased is a square with different size pins on each side of the square - these pins fit into the notches of the different caliper pistons in different makes of cars. Each side of the cube accepts a 3/8" extension. So you basically pick the side that best fits your piston, hold the caliper in one hand and use your wrench to turn it in while pushing on the wrench as you turn - no needle nose pliers through the palm of your hand.

FREE: There is also a nice one with lots of adapters you should be able to get via the loan-a-tool program many auto part suppliers have available. It looks something like this:

Ill head to harnor freight. I assume to open i undo bleeder screw then turn counter clockwise with the tool.. of course ill bleed it after its back on. Can i compress it to for or do you open it as far as yo7 can like normal calipers?

Thanks guys. That $5 tool saved my ass... back on in 5 minutes with it. Now the other side will go like butter. Whoever did brakes last didnt have the piston lined up with the pad guide either so fixed that too.

I've always used a needle nose pliers like 2gmitsu said, sometimes you have to kung-fu mega grip them, sometimes you don't.
