I haven't tried to see how quick it was yet, but it accelerates fast. Also my pedal doesn't go WOT without modification, which I will be doing soon. I haven't seen the car for 2 weeks, it is still at the body shop. Hoping to get it done soon so I can finish getting it ready for paint.

Ill try to get that soon :) Im planning to get it painted within the next couple of weeks

Almost done with the body work, probably 2 or 3 days left. Here is what I did today. I have these side scoops, so I cut larger holes in the quarter panels and welded in channels to direct air and to stop water/moisture from getting down inside the fender when washing it.

This is before I had the body fixed, but shows the side scoop:

Here is the larger hole cut out:

Here is the metal welded in with seam sealer to make channels. I will add a coat of black POR15 to it so it is nice and shiney.

You can see the holes in there that go into the cabin, I assume the factory used these to fill the panels with sound deadening foam. I might enlarge them and have some sort of duct work go to the air filter and intercooler, but as for now this job is done.

That blue color looks nice. Or maybe go with the 'Herbie the Love bug' paint design? :)
As far as emblems go that one on the hood feels out of place. Although one on the engine cover should say 'Mitsubishi' instead of 'Volkswagen' using same or similar font.

Underlay a Mitsu decal under the emblem wherever you end up putting it. If the vw emblem is 3" diameter make the Mitsu like 6" so it shows underneath and outside the edges

I vote white:thumb:

I vote for the Fiji Blue! It will look better in my opinion. I like the idea of the deck lid writing to say Mitsubishi instead of Volkswagen. As far as the front emblem is concerned I say either take it off or keep it VW since it is a mixture of both cars, and that way at a show people will think just a normal clean bug till they walk around back and see a 4g63.

Haven't checked this thread in a good while, are yous till having the stumble here and there on idle? I know my car is picky about the temp range of plug and type. I have had the best results with the copper NGK BPR7ES and BR7ES. I ended up switching to the non-projected electrode type (without the P in the part code) as they are less likely to create a hot stop and lead to early ignition

Thanks ripper, I will have to try a different set of plugs. It is not bad but does stumble here and there at idle like you said. The car is being sent to paint tomorrow but when it gets back I am just about to finish up the firewall. Then I need to do a timing belt and water pump on it, ill switch the plugs then. I can finally start putting it back together soon :)

What makes me angry is that I had a similar idea as this thread a few years ago. Even talked to a buddy in the private section about which turbo setup would be better.. However the timing wasnt right for the project and I havent been able to start.. But now, Im gathering parts and I have a lot more fabrication skills and knowledge. While yours is similar, it is VERY different from how mine is going to be! Hopefully can have it done in 11 months and have it at the shootout next year! It looks rough but its solid! Are you going to cut the back off ? What will be different? I am curious !!

Keep it chrome since most, if not all, other trim is chrome. If you can get black wheels with some (not all!) shiny in them that will look nice too.
Is that black strip on the bumper original? Looks nice either way.
