I want to know how to restore the lower window trim. I know I can restore the rear quarter window trim by masking, sanding and painting, but how can I make the lower driver and passenger window rubber trim look new again? Do those trim restore kits actually work?

I've painted several and never had any issues. I always use a red scotch Brite and clean it with alcohol then spray them with vynal and fabric paint. It's a flexible paint that doesn't chip profided you prep the surface well. The ones on my current car are going on 3 years and still look as good as they did when I painted them. You can use the same stuff for all rubberish and plastic window trims.

My 1g has black plastic coating covering polish metal trim. I was just going to spray paint it after chipping all the old stuff off.

if your afraid of making a mistake, you could try plasti dip. Clean up the old trim real well first. Plasti dip is reversible / cheap and you can peel it off if you don't like it. It makes your trim look almost factory again from pics I seen. I just did my front window cowl and I'm impressed with the results

I just used plastidip yesterday since i had some laying around. I didn't realize it worked on rubber. It looks pretty good, definitely an improvement. We'll see how long it lasts.
Also, tudds2k, I believe you're referring to the drip rails. I'm referring to the lower window rubber. Plastidip works well for drip rails too. Chipping and spray painting looks like crap.

I don't know if this will work but I'll be trying it out on my mustache, bumper covers, skuttle board...

I recently acquired a GSX and I'm starting to clean her up. The drip rails are totally shot. They have lost over 50% of the rubber coating and showing metal all the way down. The OEM parts seem to be very difficult to find, if anyone knows a place I'm all ears. Also interested to hear if someone has an idea of how to restore ones that are in really rough shape.

Many people plastidip the drip rails. I'm sure there's a how to on here somewhere. I've had good luck at junkyards.
Also, an update on the rubber lower moldings. The plastidip looks good, but it's got a sticky feeling, and attracts dust and pollen. Not sure if it's because its on rubber or if I didn't let it dry enough between coats.

I am also in the process of getting her repainted. is there any way of finding new or in great shape rear side window trim. Along with window door jam seal???? striking out for the junk yard......

I don't have time to search but there's a tech thread on here somewhere showing how to restore the rear window trim by sanding and painting.
You can get any type of OEM door seals in eBay or through the dealership, but be prepared to pay a lot.

If you arw good with vinyl than I would suggest 3m shadowline vinyl....u can get it on ebay pretty cheap for a 3" wide roll.....this is what I used to cover up all the ugly chrome trim in my e46 bmw and what I will be using on my 2g talon to restore my trim......ive had it on my bmw now for about 6 years and it still looks as good as the dayI installed it

Turtle Wax sell a trim restorer kit at Wally world, It works really great on rubber trim like whats on the 2g. and decently well on metal. Not sure If you can use it to coat the plasti dip so it won't build pollen, but I used it on my car and I was very pleased with the results, Its relatively cheap too
