Ok, have a check engine light., went to advance n it came up ignition coil. I have just replaced the wires/plugs(NGK). I've done quite a bit of preventative maintenance. It does feel like there is a miss somewhere.
Anyways, I'm gonna test the coils first make sure they're good. If it turns out I need to replace it, I will. I've looked on the forum, and basically the only answer that I've got is stay away from the MSD. There are couple brands that sell at the local parts store., BWD/Duralast/etc.
I have a 420a, so i'm not going to go over budget just for a coil pack. BWD seems the most popular(everyone carries it). The cheapest one was Duralast for 65. Or I can wait and order from Rockauto(was looking at the Wells)., but I won't get it till the end of next week. N I could use it now, being I've put new wires and plugs in.
I did spend about an hour looking up replacement coil packs and couldn't really find anything on the forums., idk.
Any suggestions...
Thanks DSM)

You should probably check your wires and plugs are all tight, correct order, wires not damaged etc. first, seems somewhat coincidental that your CEL threw an ignition coil code right after replacing those. If you do need a replacement, you can probably pick up an OEM pair relatively cheap on the classifieds here from someone who switched to COP. Brand wise I try to avoid advance/autozone replacement parts, usually I try to get something from rock auto in a brand that I know manufactures components for OEM, even if not necessarily for the vehicle I need the part from. I checked on rock auto to see what brand make them, I would probably go with the delphi if I went aftermarket, bosch would be a safe bet, but its expensive, if you insist on getting a cheap one, I'd go with the standard motor products. The first two I know manufacture a LOT of oem parts, I think standard motor products manufactures some oem components as well, but not quite sure on that one.

Very strange, usually it's a o2 sensor(no cat)., but it said ignition coil. Of course right around that time, I just had my timing belt changed. But after I put in new ngk plugs n wires, the idle was going up to 2rpms in neutral. Since then I changed the Pcv valve, cleaned the hose, changed the elbow on the intake, redid the plugs, the wires click when put on, so that was right. The light came off(good thing, I hope). Now I have another separate issue, I'm going to look on here b4 posting.
Thanks for the reply though., I'm still debating on going to Mitsubishi n ordering a new one, cause everything I've changed on here looks like it has never been changed(corrosion, rust, gunk). It might be for the best, idk.:idontknow: Oh n I talked w/ a Mitsubishi mechanic, he said there is no way of checking the ohms on the coil pack., but in the chilton manual, it says to check w/an ohm reader(but doesn't say what it should read). Again idk.
Kinda hate not knowing...

Get a new coil even if the light went off, I just spent $250 tuning up my 420a today. I got ngk plugs as well as wires and serviced everything from top to bottom, and the car ran fine. After sitting for a while I went to crank it and it wouldn't start. I spent 6 hours looking for the problem, even putting in the old plugs and wires, just to find out my msd coil went bad. It's been acting weird when it was idling, but I blew it off because it was fine when driving, so I assumed it was something trivial, like a vacuum line. It can get weak and produce a lower voltage and pick back up again later, so replace it now b4 it does quit.
