Hey guys, I just been having this weird hissing noise when I am in 2-5 gear. 1st however, doesn't make any noise. The hiss goes away when:

1. Lets say its in second gear, I press more into second with the shifter.

2. 3rd gear hiss is cured when I press more into 3rd with the shifter.

and so on. Its the same thing for all the gears except 1st because it doesn't make a noise. I am going to try some metal shifter bushings in the shifter assembly. I already have the under the hood kind on the shifter cables. Just wondering why it is making that kind of noise. Any idea guys? BTW, the shifter cables are all bolted in properly.

I noticed its 3rd and 5th that make the hissing the loudest but 5th is still louder than all of them. However, when I push the shifter more in, the hissing goes away.

My old GST used to have the same problem. But I cured the problem by rearending an Accord and parting it out. I never found out what it was.

I don't know too much about transmissions but if you take the end of the tranny off there is a bolt that holds everything together. Sometimes that bolt will loosen up and could cause you to not completely enter gears.

it could be the syncros, or the tranny might be going. My friend has a 1g that made the same noise and we took the car to english town to race and half way down the track the tranny seized up and got stuck in gear so be carefull.. Take it to a tranny shop and they can tell u or just go and buy another one. Good luck RJ. :talon:

Alright hears the problem: When either backing up or moving forward if I give the car about 2000 rpms worth of gas and let out the clutch you hear a loud pop from the tranny. But, if I ease into it with the clutch no noise.

Second if I'm hard on the pedal accelerating in either 1st or 2nd gear I get a bad grinding noise, but it shifts fine in every gear with no other noise under normal driving. Any ideas? WTF It started all this after the new flywheel street disc and 2600lb. clutch with synthetic fluid. Oh, and when I did this it was about 96k miles and the other owner had evidently never changed the fluid!

I believe mine is more shifter linkage adjustment problems. My tranny makes a noise when I am in 3rd and 5th. However its more 5th. However if I put the shifter more into the slot, the noise goes away. I am going to see if I adjust the shifter cables will make a difference.

I'm having this exact same problem, and i've also noticed that pushing the shifter more into the gear almost kills the noise as well? did you find a solution?

anyone else know what this might be?

I recently changed my tranny fluid, and my cables were replaced, but it shifts fine, I just can't figure out why its making this noise.

My car does the same thing.. i just installed my B&M short shifter, and it started. before i installed that, there was no noise.. any ideas?

Dang! This Post was sitting from Jan and noone replied until now. What the heck people? I installed the B&M short shifter and ACT 2600 on my last DSM and started having the same problem... I installed bearings in the shift linkage and the Symborski shifter kit which made the noise less often but more prominent when it was there... I took the end cover off the transmission, tightened up the bolt on the end of the tranny as per the instructions in Vfaq and changed to Redline Superheavy weight and that took care of it. Hope this helps!

i am adjusting my shifter to the 35% pin, instead of the 50% just to see if that makes any difference.. if that doesnt work, i'm gunna have a tranny shot tech ride with me and tell me what he things.

Sorry for bringing this thread back to life but I am having the same problem. Anyone figure out a solution to this?
