Got my car running finally . I got a remanufactured alternator and a new battery, BUT battery isn't staying charged it's left me stranded late at night 2nd time now. The belts on everything is connected and it runs fine . But after it dies it barley starts and if it does start it only makes it down not even a block what do I look for I am not so good with electrical . Please help .

And if you don't have the correct voltage or if it is the same as the battery (ei..12.5V, like its not charging) check the big fuse under the hood for "ALT". It is a 80 amp or 100 amp.

Yep that's the one Paul. Two 10mm bolts hold the wires to it and hold it in place...good memory!! And KayTee, it should show at least 13.5-13.8 at the battery, if it is just 12.5-12.8 your alternator isn't charging, be it a bad unit or a blown fuse that isn't allowing the alternator field to energize. This would be with all voltage sucking devices turned off and just the car running.

If you can get the battery charged, you can drive the car using as minimal power as possible (don't run the lights, radio, or a/c) until it runs out of power to fire the coil or power the ECU / fuel pump.

I agree- it definitely sounds like your new alternator is defective and should be replaced as soon as possible...but you can at least get the car out of a dangerous situation or home in your driveway doing what I stated above.

Same thing happens to me put in new battery and alternator come
To find out it was te terminals that needed to be replaced

Alternator was tested came out good . So just the battery terminal ?! Even if battery is brand new I am Fiona put in a 90 amp I have a 75 in. Should I put in the bigger one in or no ?!

You may use which ever one is easier to install. If you plan on installing more electronics in your car, then I would suggest the 90 amp. Just make sure everything is bolted on tight and battery terminals clean as well as the terminal cables. Best of luck to you.

Well my dumb ass notice today when I was finally able to go back to my car that the alternator fuse was blown . So I think ha think I should get 90 it doesn't come in until tomorrow or Wednesday. Idk I a just drive it to places around me until I know for sure it's reliable.

How do I mark post this as resolved?!
