So I bought a 96 gst and it was driving fine until I noticed that it was not wanting to accelerate on the highway when I pressed the gas pedal, but the turbo boosted all the way to the top of the boost guage on the dash. I had to continue to let off and on the throttle to let the bov do its job so the car would accelerate. This lasted about 5 miles and the car shut off . When I popped the hood the header was glowing red and I tried to start it up the next day and no luck. It will try to start but the engine won't stay running. Can anyone help me with some pointers to hopefully get the car to start. There is no check engine light on or anything like that I have no clue how to get it to start. Anyone else ever experienced this problem with their own 2g gst?

How about a boost leak?
Well the stock bov looks like it was jb welded where the vacuum line fastens to the top and there is a screw plugging the other vacuum line connection and I'm not sure if it is supposed to have a hose connected to it

Thinking outside the box is there any way to check the wiring and see if it might have a kill-switch from the previous owner, I mean it is in immaculate shape for a 96
Just throwing that out there

The hose from the intake to the egr valve in front of the air box was missing, replaced that. And the positive battery terminal clamp on the wire harness was broken and I replaced that. It started up for about thirty seconds before it died. Tried to jump start the car with a Lexus suv and it clicks like it has a bad battery connection.. Any more tips for me?? Thanks for your help everyone

Does the car have a factory installed alarm? I had the "clicking" issue with my 95 gsx and it was giving symptoms like a dead battery but would sometimes start. It ended up being the factory alarm was having issues and the ground was bad, so I disconnected it and that fixed the issue. It drove me nuts for a while trying to figure out why it wouldn't start but the alarm was killing the ignition.

It does have a alarm from the factory and how exactly did you go about getting it fixed it is the weirdest thing I've seen idk what the heck could have been wrong with the car not starting.. Yet the cd player will play and the battery is not dead nor will a jump start turn the engine over.

The first thing I would do is pull th O2 out and try and restart the car if it starts bad cat and fix the bov and definitely check for boost leaks what you have explained sounds like it could be any of those

Ok I really appreciate the support guys I'm going to check out the o2 sensor and look into the anti theft issue if it is a possibility for the car to cease starting. I will post the results in the morning when I get back under the hood. Thanks ⭐

Your first post suggest you had a failure of some sort and it progressed to the point where you may have done some damage. Basic compression. Leak down tests are in order. I would also check coolant levels and mechanical timing before I did anything else. Does the crank over fine?

I wasn't saying a bad O2 would cause it. I was saying an easy way to check the cat, witch came up being clogged was to pull the O2 out to release pressure. That's all

Agree with the first suggestion. Red hot headers means the exhaust gas is getting held up and causing havoc. Remove the catalytic converter before trying to start it. Also agree with the wiseman about collateral damage. Start testing parts, you may have deep fried the starter or solenoid at some point, look at your fluids. Motor could have seized, take off upper timing belt cover check mechanical timing, if it's ok, then try to turn the engine (clockwise) at the crank. Keep us posted and good luck!

Red hot manifold can also be caused by excess fuel....from a boost leak. Or ignition timing. Clogged cat would show up on a vacuum gauge if your boost gauge has a vacation side (Not the stock gauge).

Clogged cat is surely possible but it shouldn't!nt cause a no start. Maybe a poor start and/or poor running but no fire at all seems unlikely.

Sounds like you had the same problem I had it could be a number of things for me it was electrical so I replaced my
Battery and put in a new alternator and still had the same problem turns out my battery terminals where just old and could keep the charge so I replaced them and bam jumped the car haven't had a problem since

Just a thought but u may want to check ur cam and crank sensor. Need those for the car to start too. I had a bad map sensor...maybe U have a bad MAF sensor...?? Just a thought.

After I drove it around, the car started cutting off and now I have a CEL for CAM sensor...it's a never ending battle. Almost uphill for me but its a great feeling when u find the culprit and a bad one when u find out there's another one.:banghead:

Also, have u checked ur timing?

Well I decided to check the timing and it was locked up At first until I turned the crank with a wrench and the timing belt was broken
