Ok, I've been searching this for a couple of hours and I've yet to find a definite answer. My oil is disappearing, I have done a compression test and its 160 across the board and I'm burning an excessive amount of oil, so would the PCV do this or valve stem seals? The valve stem seals where replaced at 98xxx. The car has a 6 bolt swap, and at 98k got a new head gasket, head, 1mm valves, dual valve springs, 3g lifters, new valve stem seals and fp2 cams. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Your PCV valve just takes the vapors that rise from the crank and stuff back into the intake, Usually not a problem. The seals, you can usually tell when the car sits for a night, the oil drips down and gets burned at start up. Which will make a nice blue cloud of exhaust for a sec or 2. Perhaps you have a leak???

i would check for a oil leak under the car, maybe the oil return from the turbo is leaking if you have just replaced it? other than that it could be the seals not put in right and have caused them to be bad

Honestly I don't have drip marks under the car but I'm pretty sure that near my oil filter housing/oil pan and crank pulley there is oil drips, but no where near the amount of oil I'm loosing.

Unless it fails...in which case a higher-than-normal amount of oil and blowby can get pulled into the IM during low load conditions if it's stuck open. If it's clogged up completely, higher crankcase pressure can eventually wear out seals, causing leaks.

OP:

1. Define "an excessive amount of oil" for us
2. How is the VC breather outlet set up?
3. Check the turbo for shaft play and clean everything/check for leaks as the last two posters mentioned.

I have an Evo 3 16g, no not ebay, and there is no shaft play, looks like im leaking oil out of the exhaust manifold gasket but its just there not like dripping its just kind of there. and I dont see any oil leaking anywhere. I'll double check in the morning.

Excessive as in I'll be good and a couple days later there's nothing on the dip stick.

I dont see any smoke under the hood I have let it idle for awhile and nothing...But there has been times but not lately that I have started the car and kinda looks like a splash of oil behind the exhaust, But lately it just smokes especially at idle like literally there were black smoke rings being puffed out the exhaust and if I floor it just a giant black puff of smoke..I'm kind of lost at this point

Ok... it's probably internal. Either valve seals, rings, or turbo. But... burning oil is blue-white; not black. It's possible you are also running very rich (black smoke), and leaking the oil somewhere. Or the smoke is a combination of burning oil and being rich.

The leak-down test should point you in the right direction.

Wondering if you ever solved this problem because I am smoking like crazy did a Blt, changed turbos, and comp. test 160 across the board and I am still smoking like crazy.

My 91 smoked pretty heavily and it was due to a bad pcv valve I needed up dumping a couple ounces of oil of of the intercooler. Degreased as power washed all the piping and changed the oil we'll I was at it and it helped out dramatically. I did use a thickening agent in my oil due to excessive ware on my rings how ever it purs like a kitten. But even if you doubt you pcv might be the problem is a pretty cheap fix if it is the problem
