Picked up this 1991 eclipse gs turbo for a reasonable price....5 speed, around 160k. since the day I brought it home it would never start on its own, It would crank for days. If I shot it with a little starting fluid it would start right up and run crappy, not misfiring but it sounds like it's losing fuel when I Touch the pedal. Check engine light is on. Put 4 gallons of (high octane) gas, new fuel filter, new plugs. Still no start. Ran a little better after I changed plugs but still wont start on its own. Pretty stumped right now any advice would be greatly appreciated

You've already determined it's not getting fuel. Find out why. Injectors not firing or fuel pump not working. If it sat for awhile that will kill a pump. Fire the pump manually with the check connector and see if there is fuel at the return. Injectors just listen. Ought to take you 15min to do all that. If Injectors don't fire you have more diagnosis to do but at a minimum a quick visual of the ecu would be in order first at that point.

The car did sit for awhile, not sure how long but I'm pretty sure it was through the winter. Is it true that 1g fuel pumps don't cut on until after you crank? I read something like that somewhere but it confused me. I will try to fire the pump manually when I get to the car. I already looked at the ecu it seems to be fine, no leakage or smell of burnt/rotten fish. Ive had a dodge stealth with a bad ecu and it smelled pretty strongly when opened and it had brown substance on the board, mine has no signs at all of this.

ALSO to add, I took a quick look at the injector clips, all wires seem to be connected but i did see some splits after the clip...... Going to the yard today to see if i can locate some identical injector clips/wires. Any suggestions on what car to cut them off of ?

Car must crank or spin cas. If you avoid it don't buy used injector clips buy new. Doubt that's it. Listen to injectors and see if they are firing. Stethoscope or screwdriver works
