I think i'm going to keep an eye out for the rx7 bins and do that setup.

You should consider welding parts, make some hardlines, reduce the number of worm clamps. It would really clean things up.

Will do that once the system is fully tested. Still debating how to duct the inlet which could interfere with hard plumbing.

That storage bin idea is pretty interesting....

Some one bring this thread back to life. We really need a alternative to our stripped cars

I agree! I want something that looks like it actually belongs there, but removes the back seats. I love the rx7 storage bins idea.

I know where a 2nd gen rx-7 is on a junkyard. I could probably get the bins out of it if they aren't asking to much and fabricate something out of MDF, and include some carpet/wood screws. All you would need is the actual bins, and of course a hammer, wood glue, and a screw driver.

I want to do something like this soon, but I was planning on just building one long tray for a small set of mechanics tools (10/12/14/15/17mm wrenches and sockets, jumper cables, collapsible 4-way, and a few other things.

I have searched all over the internet and i cant find a site that sells used or oem replacement parts. Does anyone know how to get a new ones?

New RX-7 rear storage bins? Gonna be about 100% impossible to find those. Most of those cars are 80s models... I think they may continued to 90? 92? I'm not a mazda guy but I do like the 2nd gens.

Orly? I wish some of the people that did this still posted. I would like to figure out which ones fit better and make kits for that. I have my back seats out now and I am mocking up templates for my eventual delete kit. Sorry to say but its super busy right now and I may not get to this until after thanksgiving or possibly christmas but I would like to get this on the market at some point.

I am thinking about making it with many different top deck options. Large storage box, RX-7 storage bin option. As well options for a sub/amp rack. IMO this would be superior to just sticking the the subs in the trunk because you would still have full access to the spare, and any tools you keep back there, as well as room for groceries or w/e.

The storage bin options will probably come first because honestly that is what I want in my car. Then maybe later once I learn how to build a good ported enclosure and figure out what the best mounting angle would be so it hits the glass and you get a good reverb. Of course all of this would made from MDF and include carpet/woods screws. You would have to put it together to minimize shipping costs. But it would be precut and have every thing you need.

How much do you think the final product will weigh?
When you are finished, I would like to see the install pictures!

I want to keep the final product weight below 30 lbs with FC RX-7 bin option. The back seats + seat belts weigh about that give or take a few lbs. The goal is not to add any weight, but to get rid of the useless back seats. My girlfriend's best friend is 5' even and skinny as a stick, she has to sit sideways back there to be comfortable. They are just point blank useless.

I am not sure how much the MDF will weigh. So far all I have is carboard patterns mocked up. I will probably get the rx-7 bins after thanksgiving and figure out everything out. I just don't have much time atm. This was just something I toyed with when I did my fuel pump rewire. Currently I am trying to get my engine back in. Then I have a 3 day in the field next weekend, and then thanksgiving week. soooo like I said super busy.

Post up your rear seat delete pics.

I know they don't make a "delete kit" for our cars and I'm going to have to fab something up but I wanted to see what you guys may have already came up with.

Most people will say "just pull the seats and seatbelts out and be done with it" well this thread isn't for you. I can easily do that, but i can not be satisfied with the bare "race car" look afterwards. Track cars… sure. Street cars… I can't fade it. Lol.

I know a lot of people have custom stereo setups back there too, but I'm not looking for those really either. I'm inquiring about the "factory delete" look like in the pics. I want to keep it as light and seamless as possible. What are some the things you guys used?

Thanks!

All 1/2" MDF.... I believe it's half inch. Can't remember exactly. The bottom is fiberglassed with MDF sides and top. The amps are under the passenger side.

The sub is a little big for the enclosure but I don't find myself rocking out to music as much as I just get on the gas!

I knew a guy who used a rear seat delete kit from a SN95 mustang in a 2g. It looked good. Said there was very little modifying to the kit.

It made me wonder if a fox body delete kit would fit the 1g's.
