I just purchased a 98 5 speed eclipse with the knowledge that it would need some work. The car is in great shape with 85k. Aside from a header that someone put on the car everything else is stock. That creates some excessive heat. The car will start and drive great. Once the car it turned off it will not start. It won't even try. All of the power turns on just no crank. It has only done this once the car is warm. I've replaced the thermostat, both of the heat sensors on the thermostat housing, The crank and cam position sensors along with a few other things. The battery has more than enough amps. I haven't pulled the starter to see if the solenoid is starting to fail yet. I'm hoping that is it and not a computer issue. Has anyone else had a problem like this or does anyone have any suggestions. Thanks!

It is a manual. The clutch safety switch is functioning.

It has an alarm that I would say was an aftermarket alarm but I'm not positive. It is not functional however. I'm not sure what effect it would have.

That's funny that you say that because I have disconnected the battery to give the computer enough down time to reset itself and then it will restart most of the time.

Posted above are both wiring diagrams one with a factory alarm and one without. Also posted above is the location of the factory alarm starter relay. This is a fairly basic system. The fact you say that by disconnecting the battery, the vehicle will start is telling me either a code or malfunction is clearing or a relay/circuit is resetting with the loss of voltage. First lets see if this vehicle is equipped with a factory alarm. Attempt to locate the Theft Alarm Starter Relay and report back.

The heat from running the car is somewhere expanding a cable that is probably shot and has limited to no contact under those conditions. You need to recheck all your wires going to your starter. If one looks wonkey chances are you should replace it.

Thanks for all the info guys. I appreciate the time you spent in finding this information. I drove my truck today so I will look into those things when I get home tonight. I have replaced all lines running to the starter already.

Check ALL CONNECTIONS related to the starter, I had the same problem with a 7.5 liter carbureted big block. Same time frame for running and cooling, however the new starter fixed it. Check the power wire coming from the battery it may be a bad wire, and with heating and expanding it may be separating enough to cause the malfunction. Hope I helped

I still have not had the opportunity to check on the alarm system. I wish I had one because someone got into my car along with all the open cars on my street and stole my wallet. Josh, if you read back through this thread you will be bale to see all of the things that have been tried already. Thanks for the advice.
