Ok so this is my first Mitsubishi. That being said it is also my first eclipse gst. I have worked on many muscle cars and 8 cylinders. I have read of people stroking these little engines and running some ridiculous boost with water meth kits or nitrous. I have seen this in again v8 engines but can this engine really handle that much? And if so who would i order the parts from. But before I put the cart in front of the horse I have a few questions, when I first crank the car and the trans fluid is still cold the trans goes from park to reverse to drive with a hard jolt but still drives fine once in gear and shifts fine once in drive. Then once the fluid is warm with the rest of the engine it shifts fine from park to reverse or neutral. Now I may be wrong but that seems like a trans filter right? I do know how to use the search bar and will soon be starting to read more into I'm just looking for guidance here and maybe someone will already know the answers I need. That being said, when I turn the throttle while under the hood the turbo smokes I've seen this before I just need to know if there is a rebuild kit for it or is it best to just buy a new one, preferably with the ability to run higher boost and a boost gauge with adjustable blow off valve. And the final question I have is is there a build journal or parts list to tell me what I need and the stock and new measurements to bore over stroke over and build this engine to be able to handle the high boost that alot of people are talking about running. I thank you very much for your help and patience with me, and for taking your time to help me.

First maintenance, maintenance, maintenance. These cars get a bad name from people trying to mod them before they're "right". Being turbo adds to maintenance issues and cost. Which only makes the problems worse.

Plus they're getting older and have likely had a hard life by now.

Boost leak tester is a must.

But after the car is tip top, which can easily take a grand or two, the first things to get would be a boost gauge and wideband.

After that, its the typical intake, exhaust, and boost controller. Its easy to get ahead of yourself, like with talks of an engine build, so think small and take your time.

Welcome to the forum.

If I were you I'd change the timing belt + water pump + spark plugs and do a boost leak test before you do anything else to the car.

Oh and a nice oil change won't hurt.

As mentioned maintenance is everything and a lot of times people upgrade stuff before doing the proper maintenance then when the car breaks down it's a "piece of shit."

If you take care of your car it will reward you with a long healthy life!

And if you do decide on a build, start with a budget, and your goals in mind. There is no need to say, I want to spend 10k but I want 400awhp. Thats not to say a good 400hp build won't cost you money, but be reasonable. Some turbos are just plain too much for "x" power level. Be smart, and do hella research. Before I chose my list of parts, I scoured the website on everyone's builds and took as much as I could from them.

Oh and welcome to the forum.

Actually what I was planning on doing is fixing and upgrading the trans. repairing the turbo and doing all maintenance. Then using this as my dd. while I buy the parts and do all the work at once, and I spend a couple hours each day scouring this site and a couple other sites looking for the best parts and best upgrades that will help me in my build.
