I have a 1997 Dodge Avenger ES 2.5 v6. I warped the heads a while ago so I thought I would be "cool / fast" if I bore the block 0.020" shave the crankshaft 0.010". So that's what I did, there wasn't an increasingly hp or acceleration difference. I looked a putting a turbo on this engine, but after reading forums. It would be difficult and yet expensive. People were saying it's way easier or my best bet would be to swap it with a 2002 3.0 stratus engine and run nitro.

I know that there was a 4 cylinder avenger that came with the 420a. My question is there anyone out there that has completed this swap? If some please refer me to them or post some steps.

I put about $1200 into this 6g73, it only has about 5,000 miles on it. But, if this swap it possible and I can complete this than I would sell the 6g73 for relatively cheap.

Come one guys, let the post begin...

More engine bay, good mpg, and I should be able to put a turbo on there. Unless you have an idea for an SRT-4. I'd take that. C'mon guys help me out.

A 420a yes possibly better gas mileage but maybe not depending on the load the motor is on the haul around the heavier car. You have already invested the money into the 4g and have a brand new engine in the car. The money required to make the 420a even compete with what you have in there already would probably be more then the turbo for the current engine.

So you want to put a 420a into your v6 avenger? :aha: I mean if you want, but it won't be any faster. And with all that custom work It would be a lot better with a 4g. But still why not look for a twin turbo 3kgt:idontknow: or twin turbo your car. Not sure if the avengers came with them on some models or not. But that's just me, good luck on your swap.

Here is another guy who wants to do the same. Not much info but others don't like that motor I guess.

6g73 is a reliable motor. The mpg diffrence between v6 and 4 cyl will be minimal for the amount of work. I say save up some money and look for a boosted eclipse. With simple mods it will be way faster than those motors on low boost. I had a 3G eclipse I was modding and I quit and bought myself my gsx

Sorry miss typed by putting the 4g rather then the 6g. But if it is the same motor as the 3000gt like mentioned before why not try to find the parts from a 3000gt that are needed for the turbos if they will fit beneath the hood.

so you want a 420a avenger? scrap yours and buy one they got for $1500 on a good day. You could do a long block 3.0 swap and be content or if you want a fast avenger then I'll sell you mine

buy something that has a 4g63 already in it. in my opinion it's the best 4 cyl in it's generation. the only 4 banger I'd consider is that new 2015 2.3 turbo ecoboost found in the stang and soon to be RS, or an ecotec. even then I'd still probably choose a 4g if they were all in front of me.

I think the 3000GT has the 6G72. If the 4G63 swap has been completed than could you guys help me find the information to complete the swap?

It has been done but it takes a TON of work. I've seen one in person and the owner was explaining how much of a PITA it was. Sell your car, list it with a rebuilt motor and hope and pray you can get a buyer. Buy a DSM. Unless you are willing to spend some serious change and put in time, there is no way in making the V6 avenger even close to fast.

BTW sourcing 3KGT parts for the avenger is a waste of time as the 6G found in the avenger is a SOHC V6 while the TT 3KGTs are DOHC and are very different motors.

Buy a 4g, call it a day. Don't waste your time on a 420a or think about doing anything to that engine. Yes people Turbo them and everything but I don't see any of them doing what a 4g can stock. Sell your Dodge to someone looking for a car for their kids to drive and locate a 4g. You'll be happier, faster (after maintenance!), and you'll love your life more.

Best wishes to you

Your better off just buying a 420a car LOL, you shouldn't though mpg isn't that big of a difference

I'm about 20k deep into my build, its sexy for sure but if I was asked to do it again I would laugh. The v6 and 4cyl mounts are completely different, you'd need the engine wiring harness from the 420a, ecu, trans, axles.

Nothing from the 3/S platform for engine is going to work or bolt on to your 2.5 or even if you 3.0 swap it the engines are still completely different.
So you could always just put a few more things into your 2.5, some sets of headers are still floating around they usually go about $500. From there do maybe a 2.5" exhaust all the way back, some of the v6 eclipse headers I think can be modified to fit but still need a good amount of fabrication work. Put some nitrous in there and you MIGHT be lucky enough to hit 13's

But it's your car and your money so do as you please.
