Ok so here's the story...

Picked up a running, driving, shifting, boosting 91 plymouth laser rs turbo around the first week of april, towed it to my house because I was told the turbo drain leaked. Easy enough right ? Wrong, this thing leaked BAD. So I took it to English racing to get the leaks checked out, only reason I didn't do it myself, they have a lift, I dont. Got the car back yesterday, 22apr2015, and started tearing into it. First problem was the wheels are not factory, they are some low grade non oem dual lug pattern rims, and they had these weird security lug nuts on them, for which I didn't have the tool. So I checked my daily turd, (mk4 jetta tdi) and I had the same lug nuts, so the tool for the jetta worked, got the car up on 4 jack stands, all four tires off. Every wheel was missing at least one lug nut, bot front wheels were missing two. Got the wheels off, immediately notice play in the left front lower control arm, the front chassis bushing nut was completely loose. Easy fix. Right front wheel bearing was bad, as was the right front lower control arm ball joint. After spending all day at baxters and the machine shop connected to them, I got the rear rotors turned, rear brake pads, and a coolant cap. my problem right now is that I can't find front rotors that match what I took off the car. I believe they are 5x114.3, with an overall diameter of 10.490 inches, or 266.24 mm, as measured by the machinist. These are what I pulled off the front hubs, but nothing anyone had matched them. Everything was either to small in diameter, to big in diameter, or the lug pattern didn't match. I can at least put the rear brakes together, but I'm 6 lug nuts short of being able to secure all four wheels.

Anyone else have a brand "new to them" car throw such a tantrum on the first week of repairs ?

So today is day 4, yesterday I got the rear brakes done, sortof... when I got everything back together, rotor on, mounting bracket on, pads in place and the slide shims greased, and the caliper back on, the ebrake handle was disengaged, but the brakes were clamped on tight... I really had to crank on the caliper to get it back on, and I'm afraid I may have damaged something. I tried opening the bleeder valve and decompressing the ebrake mechanism, which seemed to work, it unlocked the hub. But when I went to engage the ebrake, the left rear wheel locked up, but the right rear wheels ebrake was still disengaged. Anyone have any clue as to why could have happened or what I could have broken ? I'm also still trying to locate front brake hardware, the calipers, the mounting brackets, the pads and rotors.

The right side ebrake cable is seizing inside the cable housing. I confirmed this by cycling the ebrake handle several times with the right side cable disconnected at the right rear caliper. With each cycle of the ebrake handle, the left side cable was moving back and forth evenly, but the right side cable was only moving forward. I had to yank on the end of the cable with pliers to get the cable to reset. Is there anyway I can save the cable, or do I just need a new one ? I'm worried I'll find more and more parts for this car that are simply discontinued.

You may be able to save it. Worst case you pick one up at a junkyard or new aftermarket like rockauto I know has them. Your right some of these parts are getting scarce.LOL

My rear subframe was heavily rusted, and after being out of the game for 10 years, i wasn't sure where to look for another one, then I found @Stangmurdera (Stevie Miller) of Miller Import Parts, who essentially has a dsm junkyard. I have since replaced lots of things my 92 was missing with stuff from him. www.millerimportparts.com

don't pay much attention to the website inventory, instead email him your requests and he's pretty prompt at getting back to you.

My '90 Laser that I just got for $500 has a "blown head gasket" according to PO. It gobbles antifreeze and seems to have NO compression so I think its motor swap time out of my GSX parts car with a good engine so I am right there with you on "new to me" car problems. And tmoney is right, Steve at Miller Import Parts is a great source for our parts so shoot him an email. :thumb:

A car will pass safety missing 2 lug nuts on a five bolt pattern ,I lost my lug nut key for a month (found it eventually) and needed winter tires so we used that reverse threading thing , i drove like that even now still haven't found the time to rotate my tires and add the key locks back on LOL you'll be fine !
