How's it goin folks. I just recently purchased my first dsm about a week ago, managed to snag a 1992 eclipse gsx manual turbo from a police auction for 850 after towing it. Unfortunately it had been towed on 2 wheels a couple times and the wheels are currently locked up, so I know the transfer case and possibly trans/rear diff are in need of a replacement/rebuild. The front differential looks like its leaking pretty bad too so thats gonna need some work.

Engine looks stock and in pretty good condition besides a minor valve cover leak. It has 75,000 miles on it and I found records in the car for oil changes done every ~4000 miles up to 73,000 miles so that is a major plus. It must have been sitting for about 11 years before some decided to drive it again for 2k miles and then get it towed haha. All the fluids are at proper levels, engine oil was about a half quart low. battery looks like it's seen better days. I have no keys yet so I dunno if it starts, I took apart the driver door lock and had a key made thinking it would work for the ignition but the lock must have been changed at some point cus it doesn't work for anything but the driver door. I'm having a mobile locksmith come out on Wednesday when I have a day off to see if he can make a key from the ignition.

My skills are some what limited as I'm a mechanic in training but I can follow direction pretty good so I can manage to do most stuff if I have some sort of guideline haha. I'm sure you will see me back on here with lots of questions haha. My current plans with this build are to build up the engine a little bit, definitely new timing belt, fuel pump, injectors, maybe some new cams, new hardware, black valve cover, possibly exhaust/intake manifold and whatever is broken or worn out when I break down the engine. For turbo I'm leaning heavily towards the hoslet hx35 but I'm also considering a big 16g. Not sure on that though as I would like to hit around 400-450 hp which might be a bit much for the 16g and it looks like the hoslet might be a cheaper option. Also I'm in cali and have access to a decent amount of e85 gas stations wondering if that might be a good way to go for a daily driver, I know the pros but are there any potential cons?

On another note anyone happen to have a copy of the dsm repair manuals that used to be linked on dsmtalk? Link is dead and I can't manage to track down another copy, I would be forever grateful if someone could provide a link or download! otherwise I'm gonna have to pick up the haynes manual asap haha

Sweet! Nice find dc. I picked a hanes in the meantime.

Lite update I got a key made for the ignition and the car starts and goes into gear, it can go forward and reverse. The back breaks lock up a bit when I go forward so I have to change the breaks before I can gauge if there is damage to the transmission. The car sputters a bit at idle but stays pretty steady ay 1k rpm. It had some lifter tick when I first started it but I changed the oil with some valvoline vr1 and it sounds pretty good now. Next goal is to change brakes, radiator fluid and all the gear fluid.

If the wheel spins brakes arent locked up. Calipers can still be stuck. In my experience you just have to drive it some and get the rust off the surface. Took me about ten miles and lots of braking to cleanup my old front rotors that sat for 5 years.

Thanks Pauly I've actually come to the realization the mechanic I consulted doesn't know shit haha I'm fairly sure the locking up he was expeirencing is the transfer case. I got a good condition one from a local parts yard so I'm gonna change that out tomorrow and hopefully fix my issue.

Then I can get started on the timing belt and valve cover haha and hopefully some go fast stuff after that ;)

If tcase is bad tub that begs the question was this car towed incorrectly all those years ago. New tcase won't fix it if that's the case.

thats a good point.

I drained the transfer case and replaced the oil with a half quart of mitsubishi oem lsd gear oil, the oil I drained had swirls of silver in it and about a half teaspoon of sludgey gray stuff on the drain plug. After I changed the oil it ran smoothly with no odd noises and shifted gears decently, ran it around the block up to around 75 mph about 5 times. The first time it hit boost it felt kinda weird like it lost power but after that it was fine. It idles kinda high at around 1500, possibly a bad isc? Wondering if maybe I lucked out on the towing?

My next plan of action is to drain and fill the radiator/transmission and change the timing belt/valve cover.

Nice car. Mines the same color. I'm doing the fluid and timing belt now as well.
