nope, im mechanically retarded more or less, still learning the basics. Iv'e tried to search for it, but didnt fint anything particular. Iv'e read somewhere is pretty straightforward, since the gst and gsx is quite similar and its basicly the exhaust you need to modify abit, or get a gsx exhaust setup or something... :p

Really straight forward swap, If you're not mechanically inclined I'd hold off until after you do your research and feel comfortable. I have a build thread on here that describes it pretty well with pictures and steps feel free to browse.

Look in the classifieds on this site and find an awd roller for cheap (hint hint) then you will have everything needed and then you can sit on it. When you are comfortable and confident enough to do the swap, you will have all the parts needed.

I paid $550 for everything, but it was local and didn't need to be shipped overseas. Basically what are you going to use the car for? What made you want AWD?

My reasoning was I spent so much in the motor. I wanted to be able to have a lot of horsepower and have it streetable. If that makes sense.

For $2500 you could make your gst a strong runner as it is. Or you could pay $2500 for AWD parts that you may have to spend more money on to have installed.

If I didn't find the parts I needed as cheaply as I did, I was prepared to get the quaife differential for the fwd and build around that.

Or if you just want something unique and different I compeltely understand that as well.

i got many reasons... none makes sense. i want to make my car unique, since i guess most awd's where i live are molested or turned into nails. i want to give this car a good reputation, since "everything" is about supra's and skylines nowadays. I want to "kill" those cars with the dsm, proving its not a shitty car thats looks good.

luckily i got buddies wich are quite good mechanicly, one of them drives a top fuel dragbike he built on his own, the other dude got a 500hp vtec (not that makes the best arguement).

and i also get the impression you can build a car with much better grip with the awd swap.

i tought the price i got from Miller was quite steep aswell, he said the parts was hard to come by, so i had to "suck it up", more or less...

Those are all good reasons and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I also did it because I hate all the yuppies in their bmw's, Mercedes, and audis. (No offense to anyone that has those cars) in Columbus they all drive like asshats.

Keep your options open. Millers is such a huge salvage yard they will always have the parts you need. The hardest parts to get will be the carrier bearing mounts which have to be cut off. I got those from millers as well

thanks man. i dont really complain about the price, i just figuered i had to put atleast 10 grands for a swap (yup, we got insane prices when it comes to car parts where i live).

is there a way to negotiate with them?

i might ask if the mount for the carrier bearing is included, even thoug "he" said the i got all the mats for a swap

If millers told you all the parts I'm sure he included them. Just have them list you off all the parts youre getting to make sure.

Now a buddy of mine bought a whole parts car to do the swap. The entire rear end and subframe were soft and ate up with rust. So always make sure to check the condition before you buy.

From my experience with millers I believe they would make sure to send quality useable parts. Another plus about dealing with them.

I have a 97 gst that i was thinking of converting as well. Glad there's a parts list to shorten the the time spent on it

After the cost of labor for removing the parts plus the cost of shipping, I doubt they are getting rich off of you. I would bet you would be hard pressed to find another vendor to cater to shipping abroad. I know it may seem a little steep but it's also not unreasonable considering all the steps involved.

frankly, the price is not that steep. i can also handle the shipping, im going to use a address in NJ. Fedex would have killed this, for sure :p

hi good folks. its been awhile since i created this thread, but i have the parts, even tough its rusting in my basement atm.
its needs a little restoration love, but hopefully i will start the project during the summer.

But im looking for some advice from you guys, i have no knowledge on how to proceed. Im in contact with a guy who's done the same build, but id like some opinions from the "public" aswell.

Any experience on this matter will be greatly appreciated (maybe a step-by-step guide???) :)

What do i have to consider when doing this mod, f.ex the exhaust, do i need to replace it with GSX exhaust, or will by current exhaust work?

im the biggest newbie on the forum, and im not a gearhead, so keep it simple :p

Glad you are going to tackle it. I plan on it next winter as I should have a house with a drive way to do this to my GST, instead of a condo parking lot that I do all my work in now, (maintenance guys hate it but I don't make messes). I hear the spiders are a little harder but what do I no, only stuff iv read. But it shouldn't be not too hard and you will have a lot more confidence in yourself. :thumb:

You should make a build thread once this gets started.
