I know I'm a ways away from you, but next time text me.
If you pull the head you leave the stock intake on. Exhaust manifold off.
Remove as an assembly.

But why you are pulling the head?
That car seemed fine except that belt when I seen it last.
You need to have the starter turning the motor to test rough compression BTW. Not by hand....that's way too slow.

Sure this ""mechanic" didn't mistake a common DSM lifter tick?
A valve would cause a constant running issue.

Lets back up......just so I'm clear.....
Head off for a noise or?
Intake? non-issue remove install w/head in the stock configuration.

Head off for noise/rebuild. Figured why not.

And it's not a tick. Car can't even run. Symptoms came up after shop did ttiming belt.

Well did you figure out what was keeping it from running?
Was it compression? I'd be talking to that shop if the belt skipped etc....

It took it three months to die. Two were it sitting. I left the shop and 5 miles away the RPMS jumped up and down and I freaked out and pulled over and killed it. Took off timing cover and rotated engine to see if they were lined up and they were. Started car and it acted like nothing happened. Every once in awhile it dropped 1,000-1,500 RPMS.

Start a new thread or continue one of your other threads. Did you ever verify mechanical timing by taking the covers off?

A bore scope would have been able to look in the cylinder and mine has a mirror that attaches so I can look back up at the valves to see if any look bent. Also you could tell a bent valve by looking at all of the tops of the valve stems...are they all the same hight? When I had bent valves, you could easily tell by looking at the valve stems unequal hight under the valve cover. I had 6 bad exhaust valves and they were just ever so slightly bent, but would not close enough to seal. MTC

This thread is painful to follow.

1. On the IM, the 2g IM wont work on a 1g head. Nor is the stock 1g IM a restriction.

This was made on a stock 1g IM...

2. On the head, there was no need to pull the head before running a real compression test and visually inspecting it. Theres also no reason to remove and "rebuild" it "just cuz". If it aint broke, dont fix it.

Nor is the 1g head a restriction at any realistic power levels.

1g lifters are very noisy but easily replaced by a set of $80 revised 3g lifters.

Sounds like a lot of unneeded work going on here. Maybe slow it down and dial it back a bit. Put it back together and get it running. It sounds like you're getting ahead of yourself.
