Whoever had my car last made the front bumper rather ugly when they hacked it for a long route ebay intercooler. I'd like to make the most of this situation. I think that it would be wasteful to just swap it out for one that doesn't require so much hacking.

There is no visible way not to hack the front bumper because the pipe goes directly in front of the intercooler.

If I get rid of the center parts of the bumper cover and hack it more then I can get more flow to it...(might as well at this point), but I am unhappy about the aerodynamics and no fog situation as is. As it sits, the intercooler pipe is really pressing against the word "Plymouth". I have a spare Talon bumper, but not sure if it will fare any better with that. I'd also have to paint the bumper since the car is a non-standard silver color that someone painted it with.

My GVR4 looks awesome with a hacked bumper, but this just doesn't look right. I don't like how it kills frontal aerodynamics either.

I am pretty good at working these matters out on my own, but I'd like your thoughts.

Thanks

Can you swap out the fmic piping for a short route kit?
Not a bad idea, but I am wondering if that will cost and arm and a leg plus the cost of a new front bumper. :idontknow:

Looks goofy. You shouldn't need to cut the bumper that much. Previous owner may have had cooling issues. Looks like you can rotate that pipe a bit that's pressing against the bumper. IMO I hate ebay front mounts and long route piping. At that point you are better off going back to the stock sidemount until you get a legit short route FMIC unless you are making serious power.

Thanks,

I'll probably just go this route...since half of the idea of the car is a FWD fast ecobox....

He is running a long route intercooler. Surprised that it fit his bumper that well. Wondering if there is more room on 1ga Talon bumper.

That pipe is already pressed against the intercooler as it is, but he seems to be able to pivot his outward to get more room.

Some sheet plastic would make it look much nicer and would allow you to keep the I/C setup because it does not look like any components stick out past the bumper and the covers will be somewhat further out than the stock bumper was in that middle area. Although you might have to trim the bumper below the badge (to allow room for that one pipe) or simply make the covers a bit taller to cover up that area.

Lol, that makes it look mean as heck!

Thanks for this. Might go with the black stuff like he did since the car is 2 tone silver/black.

I like this!

Only thing is...how do I get the covers to compensate for that ugly bumper bulge? If I go above it, won't the covers simply bulge with the pipe as well? I loosened the pipe in that area, and it won't go back any further.

Looks like you can trim the bumper to fit around the pipe and then make those covers taller to cover up where you had to trim it.
...but won't the new covers rest on the same pipe?

Thanks for chiming in! The talon bumper is even smaller than the Laser's from the headlight to the bumper. Not sure how you got away with this. Do you have any pics of how you routerd this pipe? Last pic I saw had it angled even further towards the front of the car than me. It is like a miracle LOL!

4gfun, why not just use all that I.C. piping you have and make it so that it runs the way a short route would? I have to believe you have plenty of bends (90* and 45*) and straight pieces to work with.. You may need to pick up a couple more silicon couplers, but it will cut down on lag. Granted this doesn't solve the whole "hacked" bumper problem :idontknow:

Don't think so. At least from this picture it looks like the pipe does no stick out past the forward-most part of the bumper and only reason why it's bulging is because the bumper makes a bend toward the back/inside at the edge of the opening.

Thanks so far. I mean I have to try it either way whether it be your idea or going all out etc.
