Just installed an FP HTA RED, holy shite!

I choose a red for a couple simple reasons. The black and red have the same clipped td06h turbine, so as long as the compressors are in the range of efficient flow, they'll make similar power. They both use a cartridge based on the same cartridge the car came with, the 14b. I, as justin mentioned, don't feel comfortable pushing a 35r sized compressor on a 14b sized shaft, and bearing section. So, with boost limited to around 30 psi, the red spools quicker, and makes the same power.

I am curious as to how a black would perform in a 10 or 12cm t3 housing though.

MHI makes a 12cm twin-scroll T3 housing. Wonder how good of a turbo that would work out to be.

Also, some random dude commented on FP's website and says he makes 501awhp but still no dyno sheets. To my knowledge Gofer is one of the higher HP AWD 68HTA and he's not making over 500awhp. Technically 16Gs have made 400-420awhp...doesn't mean you go around referring to it as a 450awhp turbo. For 500awhp even if it was feasible for the 68HTA to make it without grenading every 1000 miles, the Red would be a MUCH better choice. The 68HTA will be on the absolute ragged edge to make that power. The Red will be a lot more comfortable flowing that and have room to grow. Terrible...terrible recommendation to someone for a 500awhp turbo.

Also, just for the record, Link horsepower estimates without trap speed/time slips to back it up doesn't count as real world numbers. Getting tired of people saying "This car makes 600awhp" and when you ask for a dyno sheet or trap speeds its "ECMLink said so!"

Edit: This post may sound asshole-ish, but that's not the intention. I apologize if I come across that way. Absolutely do not mean it to sound condescending.

Id consider the 7cm housing, but I dont have E85 here and im not sure id get away with 26 psi on that housing. I had considered the 68 hta for its stock appearance but dont think it would make over 400 hp on pump gas so I went to the Red. I actually had that mhi t3 housing laying around years ago. Rhink it came off a Hahn super 16g or something. I dont know what happened to it.

I would, but Im on 93 octane. Every tune Ive seen on 93 with this turbo so far has been limited to 26 psi or so, and Im peaking around 13 degrees of timing. Ive got the AFR in the high 10's. Im going to play with the timing this weekend if I have time to do it. Going to see if I can get it to 15- 16 degrees at 7K without knock.
In 3rd gear, I noticed that most of the time I see no knock and in 4th as well, but sometimes, I see 7- 8 counts around 5- 5.5K RPM, so Im going to pull a degree there and see if I can make it up between 6 and 7K.
This is a stock bottom end with a composite head gasket and standard ARP studs, so Im very wary of knock. When I was adusting my boost controller right after the install, I accidently took it to 35 PSI, it spooled so fast I didnt have a chance to let off! I didnt have the logger hooked up so Im unsure how much knock there may have been, but it couldnt have been good.
I can take my setup to 8K comfortably. Im just not sure if the BC springs and retainers like this much boost at their installed seat pressure or not, but the car feels very strong throughout the pull. I really want to go to the track and see what I can trap on pump gas.

Cool, Sounds similar to my colt set up, (I Just posted a thread about it)
3065, 1200s, stock 2.0 with 2g pistons, magnus, hks272s at 30 psi, 93 octane.

Timing out top is about 12. with afrs in the bottom 11s

Sounds like you're doing better than me..... I have a built 9.5:1 motor on e70 (crap e85 pump is 70% right now). I've got it up to 29psi right now and 14* up top. I get knock at 15*. Seems like I almost have the setup maxed out and I'm a little frustrated about that. Last trip out to the track I ran 8.0@96 with a 2.0 60' on street tires (1/8mi). Trap was decent but I was really expecting closer to 99mph. I've owned an old school green, old school red and this black on this DSM and a T3 HTA3582r on my EVO. I can say by far the best turbo was the HTA3582r. I'm really interested in seeing your trap speeds on that Red. I have a ported 8CM housing FWIW

@CrackedDSM

you're probably right about the shitty recommendation for the 68THA and 500HP. I've seen really good reviews on it but like you said, I haven't physically seen a dyno sheet that shows 500HP on one.

As far as mine, I've been doing this long enough to know around what it makes. I'm going to take it to the dyno soon but as far as the airflow it's making, the HP "estimate" on link and the trap speeds I know I'm in the ball park.

Still very short of my goal for this setup though.

Have you thought about meth injection? I run this turbo @26 psi on 93 and sometimes when it's a hot day I might get a little knock always under 1 degree though.
I'll attach a graph from today. The lower number was @26 psi the higher is e85 (tested75%) @30. We actually made a little more power but the injectors were maxed so we settled on 30. The car also made 501 last year on 110 fwiw.

I have considered meth for years now, just havent pulled the trigger. Nice graph, i hope im making close to 400 ish on 93 pump, dont know when ill dyno it but hope to hit the track and trap some good speeds. Ive gotten consistent 1.6- 1.7 second 60' foots before, so now with the Kaaz front and Evo rear lsds, im sure itll really hook nicely. Im running the HIGH Z FIC 1100cc injectors and need to check the duty cycle too to see where it is.

Well I just got the black over 30psi and holy shit did it wake up. At 31psi looks like it gained 40-50HP over 28.5psi. 31psi looks to be around 63lb/min, 590-600hp ish. **according to DSMLink. Dyno to come soon. Good luck on the red! Interested in seeing what it makes. I sold my red before I ever ran it and bought this black.

Are you running ethanol ? whats the timing like and afr at peak ?

Good queation, im curious about the spool myself. I havent had time to mess with mine. I was going to try and hit the track yesterday but didnt make it. Im going to try and get mine to 27 psi on straight 93 if i can do it with reasonable timing and keep the knock out of it. I like the Evo gears with this turbo cause even in 4th im at 3k rpm at 45 mph and can start to spool this thing. Im going to play with the cam gears some more to tey and squeeze a little faster spool out of it and Magnus claims up to 400 rpm faster spool with their cast manifold which sounds very appealing as well, though at this point it pulls so hard i dont really mind the lag.

How much boost is it making on the 2 step at around 5.5k? I forgot to think about that one. The 18g would make up to 15psi i think, not sure about this red. Guess ill have to hit it in the driveway and find out hehe. I can do antilag in my eprom code, im just leary of melting down my hotside. Any recommendations regarding antilag?
