I have trouble with idle on start up. It feels like its not in close loop to warm it up. "No dsmlink". I start the car and it has a hard time idling until it gets warm. Only check engine is temp sensor. Im thinking will the temp sensor make it act up like that? The rad. Fan stays constant on too. Fail safe?

Did you reset the base timing make sure its still 5 degrees btdc? Probably can't help much besides helping you double check things and btw when I was a kid I lived in Elk Grove!
I cant find anything similar because everyone else has link
So you are saying once its warm it runs even drives good/normal?
Is the problem you are having with warm starts or cold starts?

Try adjusting your BISS and see if thar helps...I just did a swap to a 6 bolt and had idle issues with it as well and adjusting that helped out a lot...I also ended up with the same code as well and found out it was my upstream o2 sensor was faulty as it was keeping it in open loop and causing rough idle at warm temp...

I live by elk grove. Lol. Yeah. Itll have trouble idling at cold start up only and when it warms up, runs like a champ but idle surges a little. im not sure if its and o2 sensor issue but ill try it out anyways. Thanks guys.

Ya...sounds like the same issue I had with mine...even the surges as well...I changed the temp sensor and thats when it gave me a p0135 for the heater wire malfunction on the upstrean o2 sensor...changed it and it smoothed out and stopped the surges...now all it does is stall every once in awhile which is the BISS needing to be adjusted again...havent gotten to it yet...a little lazy where I now have the laser im playing with...LOL

Oh and bmxfelon420 is right...the ecu will detect a misfire without a programable tuning chip in the ecu installed...I have yet to install one but for now all I did to avoid the constant headache of having to disconnect the battery every time the misfire would occur was to disable the 12 volt constant to the ecu so every time you turn the key off itll reset the ecu to prevent the misfire from happening...downfall is it clears any codes the ecu will store so if more problems occur youd have to reconnect the power...best bet is dsm link but my way is only temporary...

No. I rewired all my sensors to the cas and inverted all my sparks and injectors. Im running 1g head and block plus intake mani. But running a 2g tb. My code is p0115. Temp sensor. Only check engine i have.

Check 2 wire temp sensor. If shorted or reading low and not changing resistance with temp changes, the ECU will think engine is warm and keep mixture leaner than it should be for colder engine. Also rad fan being always on points to a bad temp sensor.

Ya...im running the same exact setup on the 97...it usually takes a few days of constant driving to get it to show up...when it does it will misfire and the cel will be triggered...just lettin ya know...it took me a few times of it happening for me to figure it out...dont want you to think you did something wrong if it does happen...
