Took yesterday off since we were getting a new HVAC system installed. While the techs were at my house installing it I made a good amount of progress on the wire tuck!

Got the stock harness completely removed:

With the dash out I also took the time to clean out the HVAC system. No wonder the fan made so much noise!!

Once I got the car tore down I realized that the plate I made would not work anywhere. For some reason I thought I had the space when the car was together. Since the AC is now completely removed I was able to use that slot for my one plug and the barb fitting for the MS.

I will have to cut up the ac box for the HVAC unit. I will post pics of what I do when that time comes. I still have to install the 2 plugs for the 4 gauge wire to the starter and alternator. You can see the one hole above the silver plug.

I will begin measuring out the engine sensor harness this weekend and start making that. I can't believe how much better the bay looks already! So pumped to finish this up.

Also got my red Audi R8 coils the other day. Nothing wrong with the other ones the red just looks better.

Started running some wires, cleaned and painted the drives side. This weekend I should be able to make some good progress getting the engine harness made up.

Well I got the engine sensor harness 90% done this weekend. Still need to attach it to the 50 pin firewall connector but I am happy with the progress.

Is that a cigarette in your fan? I better go clean mine out. Could you have gotten to it without removing the dash? Could I just remove my glovebox?

You don't have to take the dash out to get to it. Dropping the glove box should give you the needed room.

Yea there were 3 cig butts in there along with abunch of other crap.

I got the fan out without even removing the glove box. Just an FYI if anyone reads this in the future. Thanks for reminding me to do this, dsmcrzy. My fan only had one twig in it. But I checked the bearing for play and cleaned all the grime off the fins. The peace of mind is nice. Now if the motor goes out, I know it only takes about 5 minutes to remove it.

New to the forum just picked up a 98 GS as a project car working on maintenance which is literally everything
But I must say I had doubts about building the 420a until I saw your thread
You are now my inspiration for my build! Look forward to following you to the finish it looks amazing so far!

Got the new audi coils wired up. The tuck is pretty close to being done. I just need to find some time to get it finished up.

Had a little time today to make my MAP sensor plug rather than leaving the sensor in and unplugged. Nothing fancy just some Home Depot aluminum I had laying around.

Well the interior is back together. And almost everything works! Just the cam signal is not getting picked up by the megasquirt. I have tracked it to be somewhere in the engine harness side. Should have that sorted out tonight.

On another good note, the one thing still holding me up was the new knock sensor and how to mount it up. I had the hardest time finding a 8mm to 10mm step stud. Finally found one. It's actually for a VW baja bug.

I never took a pic of the completed engine sensor harness so here it is. Got everything sorted out tonight. Hopefully I will have the car all back together for this weekend!!

Might be a dumb question but what's the purpose of eliminating the map sensor?

Nice work! does anyone know if the blower motor for heat is easy in a 1g To remove thanks but daaammn nice work wish I could find the time to do this but I'm nt now anyways LOL

I am running megasquirt and it has its own map sensor built into the board. The stock 420a map can't read boost so it's useless on a turbo setup which is the ultimate goal.

Where did you get the wire loom and heat shrink wrap from?

Got the heat shrink from delcity.net. Got the wire loom from Amazon since that's the only place I could buy smaller amounts of it. I bought 1/8", 1/4", 3/8" (used a ton of this size), 1/2" and 1".

Grade A wiring in here, absolute perfection in my opinion.

Thank you! I have a ton of time into the wiring. I am very pleased with how it turned out.

No idea on a 1g LOL. Thank you for the complement though!

Damn, looks like you've been busy. Throw up some footage of it running!

Yea very busy! I'm glad it's done. It was worth it because the bay looks so much nicer now. I'm just ready to enjoy the car after working on it all winter.

I will get a vid of it running soon.

I am honestly inspired by your build and definitely want to get a N/A just to build it and daily. My GS-t gives me too many probs, nice build man serious respect for a fellow DSMer. Keep it upROFL

Well not to much to update on. Just been enjoying the car and the spring weather. It has been running flawlessly.

In an effort to move to move to a full digital dash running off an 8" windows tablet there are a few things I need to figure out. I got the megasquirt to read the 420a VSS very accurately at all speeds. I still need to figure out the fuel gauge which I have a plan for. from researching I believe the stock sending unit reads 107.5 ohms full and 7 ohms empty.

the other thing I need to figure out is the odometer... What I might end up doing is using the stock fuel gauge and odometer but reorganize them so I can fit the tablet. More to come on this.

Anyways attached are the settings in tunerstudio of the stock 420a VSS. hopefully it can help someone else. Took some trial and error. You will have to adjust the wheel/tire size to your setup. Its the overall diameter of the wheel and tire in meters.

Dude that is a horrible story, I'm sorry all that happened to you, but you have proven what determination can do thanks for sharing your story. Oh yeah screw a paint job the flat black looks awesome!
