I was working on my car the other day where the radio was, pulling some wires that someone hacked into the radio harness, and i saw a spark and didnt think to much of it. after i was done everything was still working fine about 3 hrs or so then all of the sudden when driving the power door locks, head light motors stuck in up position but lights still turn on, horn, radio, door chime, power seat belts, blower, and my autometer gauge illumination stopped working. so i started checking fuses, fuses ok no opens and checked and swapped relays. even looked at the schematics and seems everything goes through tail lamp relay under hood. well i even swapped that. still nothing. one thing i did try was jumping the blower relay under the dashboard with a jumper wire, all of the sudden a few things worked, head light motors, autometer gauges lighting up and my floor illumination lighting working, still no blower, no door locks, no chime, no power seat belts. when blower relay jumped all fuses at under dash fuse panel have power, when relay put back in no power to radio, headlamp motor/ power seatbelts, room illum, stop lamp, and heater fuses have no power at all. WTFffff is going on ive seen posts on this but no answers to this problem.. what could be going on ?

i got the same problem, only thing is my power locks dont work and some movements on my power side windows dont work (like up)

EVERYONE, I already checked ALL the fuses, they are all good, stop telling me to check fuses, dont mean to be rude but check my original post, can i please have an educated answer

12volt 101: the battery should be disconnected while performing work to an electrical circuit in a vehicle, especially on a "hot at all times" circuit...theres your education

when you were messing with the wiring, make sure that everything is connected the way it needs to be.

also make sure everything is solidly grounded. one time i installed a head unit and hooked up the wrong wire... i instantly blew fuses and the most randomous crap didnt work.

im having a similar issue i wasnt installing a radio i just did a transmition swap and extended my maf translator wires. now my dash lights, door chime, floor lights wont work i have power in both fuse block ive checked all the fuses and relays needing some help.

Having this same issue. on my 90 tsi awd. What ive noticed is that when i put the key to the on position i loose power to the alternator. Put it back to the off position i get power to the alternator. Dont know if this means anything but there you go. any suggestions? PLEASE HELP!!!! btw all fuses are good.

OK, so lets get this straight.
You were driving when everything started acting funky?

Check your connections, a bad ground, or intermittent shorts may be causing issues.

Look at the area you were working on, and make sure the "hacked" wires aren't frayed or broken, look also for loose grounds.

Remember the problem came up after you messed with the wiring, and after the care was mobile and bouncing around. Movement may have jiggled some of the previous owners jerry rigging.

Good luck, and if possible check continuity along the length of wire, and to the fuse box, after all checking continuity across a fuse only tells you the fuse is good.

My issue was resoleved at the minimum it might help others. It was that the wire that feeds the fuse box I guess over time became brittle by the connector and it broke when I touched the alternator by mistake with a wrench. The short took out the wire and none of the fuses. I replaced the connector and the issue was resolved. Hope this helps. I was trying to solve this for days. Lol :)

I would go back to the area you were working and make sure no wires are exposed. I'd also have to say that "spark" is going to be the culprit. Go back (if you remember where spark occured) and thoroughly run/check that/those wires.

im having kind of the same problem.. i had a garage rewire my computer and wire in an safc.. .. it has a bent valve so i was going to replace them.. anyway i was driving it up on the trailor.. and it started backfiring then it died.. i have lights. but no windows or door locks and i turn the key and nothing happens engine wise no cylanoid or starter .. i checked fuses my door lock one was popped so i changed it and one of the ones onder the hood was popped i changed that but still nothing.. i would love to figure this out.

Old Thread bump. Same issue. Almost all power out. Still tries to start but wont. It was the 100a fuse in the main fuse box under the hood. Its one of the fuses that bolt into the bus. Fuse looked good. But was actually blown. Trying to look at a fuse to see if its good is a bad idea. Use an Ohm Meter

Bumb for the same issue but my car runs just don't have power windows, lock, dash lights or door chimes. So roof also works and fuse has been pulled and tested
