Been a long time since I have read through this thread, need to go back through it for a refresher, been a long time since I have been a DSM owner, been through a few platforms since, currently have an Evo and I ended up adding a 2G GST to the collection through some work I did for a customer. I would love to build a purpose built car to shoot for the 14b record, however upon browsing the list of top 10, I see they are all 1g, and I realized that even if I break into the top 10 as far as 1/4 time that my car probably wouldnt be recognized due to it being a 2g and not coming factory equipped with the 14b. Would this be the case or since it is a 14b powered DSM would it be recognized? Either way I am going to give it a go as a personal goal, but would like to know that my efforts would be recognized if I were to break into the top 10.

A 2g is just to heavy .. I would look into a stripped out mirage ..your gonna wanna be in the lightest car possible there is only so much power you can make... Justin's car is well under 2k

Don't think it matters what car the 14b turbo is in

I am aware the 2g is heavy, thus why I want to try to hit the top 10 with one. No one has done it. Everyone uses 1g's because they are lighter. Bet if you would have asked people if a 2g would ever come close to sheps record without being tube chassis everyone would have said no way, but the red demon is doing work that no one would've thought possible from a stock chassis 2g.

Sounds like it's doing pretty good Shane...at least with those issues. Hope you get the time to get them sorted out soon.

If you can get a 2G into the top 10 on the 14b list I'll give you props, it's legit. Just as long as you don't bump me from my spot! :)
Dont know if I will be able to get that deep into the list, but I'm certainly going to try. LOL
Been doing a little bit of weight research, found that a 2g GST is only about 130lbs heavier than a 1g GST. So I have hope that I can shave down a bunch of weight and actually be competitive for the top 10. Not going to be an easy task at all but I am determined to do it.

Definitely give it a go! Any dsm is worthy of the top 10 and recognition. It's kind of sad that no one has pushed a 14b with a 2g platform.

I'm excited to get mine in shape for this year, 10's or bust!

Dude, youll get 10s.

Thanks for the support guys, Ive always thought about attempting the 14b record but always was sidetracked with other projects, now that this 2g fell into my lap I figured it would be a waste of a decent DSM not to give it a second lease on life.
Definitely not going to even be close to an easy task, I admire and respect all of the hard work you guys have put into pushing the 14b as far as it will go, and possibly further than it should go :)
Look forward to sharing my journey with everyone and hope to join the top 10 list.
Realistically I dont even think the car will be on the road this season, if it does I will be very surprised. I am going to start off with tearing as much weight out as possible for as cheap as I can and getting the car on the road with a custom made (by myself) harness for both body and engine functions.

Well I actually got a bit of work in on the car today. It has been parked beside my shop behind the house for the past few months. I drug it around front to the driveway to do some teardown. Pulled the engine and trans out of it, removed stock fuel lines in engine bay, any and all misc. brackets that will no longer be used, and I also chopped the nose off the car, will be doing a bolt on tubular support from the frame rails for the radiator, headlights and bumper to mount to. Not a whole lot of progress but I sold my Evo yesterday and that opened up the attached garage space so I am going to store the car in there during the build up, so now that it will be easy to work on I am hoping I can actually start making some good progress on it.
Next time I get some time to work on it I am hoping to pull the exhaust off, pull the fuel tank out, all fuel lines underneath, brake booster/master cylinder (planning on getting a manual brake master and completely deleting the brake booster).
I also was able to begin teardown on the engine. I will be re-ringing and putting a fresh set of bearings in it while I have it out and apart. Sticking with stock internals for now in hopes of being able to get out and make a couple passes at the end of this season.

The tear down begins! Looks like you've got a nice start.

With today's nice temps I plan on getting to work on the car today. Tracing wires and figuring out my issue so I can get to racing!
Thanks! Yea I was all hyped about chopping the front off, until I did it, now I am thinking it will be a much more difficult task to make it work and look clean than I initially thought, but oh well too late now! LOL.

Wire hunting, always fun. Nothing worse than electrical gremlins.

I'm getting a lot changed on mine right now...but still staying with the 325k mile stock long block for now. Hoping to have mine ready for some action in the next couple months!

Got my issue resolved. Of all things it ended up being the line to the MAP sensor. I remembered reading somewhere to keep that line as short as possible. Mine was about a foot long to the firewall, cut it down and voila, she revs freely now.

Crazy...cars will always keep you on your toes...or heels, depending on how you look at it!

Lol, the things that make you say "hmm"

I still don't fully understand it. But, I'm glad it was that simple. Going to get the trailer fixed up this weekend if possible. From there I have a few clean-up items to take care of and then it's back to the dyno to finish the tune.

Nice, Shane! I started pulling some real weight finally. Got a lot left to do. Also swapped out the ported 1g manifold for an FP manifold, ported evo 3 manifold will be ditched for my side exit exhaust, and I'm hoping to get the smic swapped out for my FMIC. Just deciding what I want to do as far as the I/C piping goes!

Got a little more work done on tear down and cleanup this evening. I think this parts washer was my best investment I made in my home shop last year, chuck stuff in, turn the timer and walk away.
