Hey all,

Just sighed up and ready to chat. just got my 99 eclipse GSX about 2 weeks ago and love it! Finally got it going right again today and can only run it for a lil while before I pull the motor and replace with a new one. just hoping this one will last me till spring at least so it a lil warmer to be outside doing this stuff!! Glad to be here.

Carina.

Im in PA so im dealing with almost the same stuff. its 17 here now. I run through about 5qts of oil every 2 days, so I parked it and I'm running my jeep until spring comes. the oil pan and gasket arebad and that's why I go through so much oil, after its parked for a lil when I go back and move it I have a huge puddle of oil under it. I was gonna just do theoil pan n run it till spring when I can swap out the motor cause the cam inside under valve cover gasket has wear and scratched really bad. so before it seizes up and I have to tow it home I would rather replace the motor. im getting a new one I found on carmonkeys.com for 1400.

I love my car tho, just very sad I cant drive it! haven't had it that long and cant even drive it without putting $20 in oil every 2 days. I also don't want to hurt the engine by letting it run low all the time either. it would be a great rebuild for someone who would want to do that after I get it out, nothing else is wrong with the motor, runs has power, just needs the cam replaced and an oil pan. ive wanted one of these cars since I was 13. LOL finally 14 years later, I get it! plan was to use it mainly for school since the jeep is $20 a night in gas vs $20 a week n a half for the car. but cant do that right now either.

Kel ford 727 cams are the way to go and yeah that does suck I'm in the middle of a half rad swap cooling upgrade battery relocation intercooler coupler upgrades with t bolts amongst other goodies awesome cars when they run right/built right I have had mine 6+years so trust I know the headaches

Since it runs good and only pours out oil, why not do the oil pan and the cylinder head only. Much simpler & cheaper job, not to mention it'll be back on the road in a matter of days

we can swap out a motor in about a day n then its all new and bs later. LOL wit our luck every time we fix something some thing else breaks. so this way its all new and good and nothing to worry about later.

Welcome! If its a 99 you have a revised block, I would rebuild that versus putting another 7 bolt in there.

welcome Carina and glad you joined us

Thanks all. So the update on that is i bought a engine rebuild kit. We fixed the oil leak. Was the oil pump. Found a piece of the piston laying in the bottom and the cylinder scratched. It was too deep so decided to just fix the oil issue and put it back together. Since it ran fine with the Pistons like that figured it'll be fine after its back together... Well... WRONG!!! It did for 4.8 miles when it lost all power and when I got it to the side of the road it quit!! So now I have a new motor lined up. Only 85k miles for $350. Or thought about selling my car. I dk. So stuck and torn between what I wana do.
