I want some advice, I am making my wish list for my car:

Currently no mods, all stock 95 talon tsi

My car has the non lsd rear dif, and I am planing to get a LSD rear dif in the future, a quaife if its possible, the question here is:

Do I need to get just the new LSD dif core? Or it will work with my current settings?
it may be confusing, i am asking if I need to get new lsd axles or anything else

thanks guys I appreciate the help

I don't have first-hand knowledge with the rear diff in DSM's but typically, you'll keep your input and output shaft adapters and just replace the core gearset with the LSD unit.

its under my impression you can just buy the entire rear diff and unbolt yours and plop the new one in?

should be fairly easy to find someone selling one in classifieds, i know i have a few laying around.. i cant be the only one.. haha

Do I need to do that?
I don't want to get a viscous stock dif, I want to get a quaife one, my question is:
Will it work on my non VLSD rear end???

LSD differentials require LSD axles.

Are you sure?

Quaife says that their $1000 rear helical not only fits the non-LSD housing but using non-LSD axles. And the OP mentioned Quaife.

With that said, most people put a modified clutch-pack in the rear and they all seem to use LSD axles. I'm just wondering if you're sure that all LSD need LSD axles.

I can't answer the question of whether you need lsd axles for the quaife. I do however know that both my gsx's have an "extra" splined nose on the passenger side axle that inserts into a set of gears in the center of the carrier. I do not and have not owned a non-lsd rear but I would doubt that it would have the same design as an open diff.

If as previously posted the lsd you intend to purchase does not require oem lsd axles I guess your all set. :thumb:

Having had a day to think about this, my main suggestion to the OP is to develop a more-complete plan. In other words, when you are done, what will the three diffs be? To do this, you need to first be clear about the purpose and/or goals for the car. To make the best decision, you also need to know what level of power you will have, as well as how the car will be used.

Ok, as for now, the goal is to have a quaife lsd dif, because it will be needed for autocross or drag racing, so don't worry about future plans on power or application guys,, my concern here is not to buy useless things, as a stock viscous dif that I don't want and maybe don't need...

Lets keep it simple, what is needed to upgrade my non lsd dif to a quiafe???

Thanks guys for all those who have taken the time to answer =D

I have no problem being an ass....

OP: I really, really doubt that you'll be happy with a helical in the rear. You are making a $1,000 mod that you will have to undo later. You want a 1.5-way in the rear, not a helical.

jtmcinder, sorry but I don't know what do you mean by a "1.5-way in the rear"

I'm making my wish list for an all out car, and i want to use it on the drag strip, it might be a little dreamy but I'm expecting to have ready my car in a few years, i already know what to put in the engine and also trany, just need some advice in my differentials

Spending big bucks on a LSD is your first mod to a stock car?

Yes, right now it is stock, as I said, I am making my wish list, and i want some advice on differentials, so I have the knowledge for the time I have to swap my dif, and i think it will be after I rebuild my engine in about 500 hp

I feel comfortable with my 4 bolt LSD in my lil red monster. I swapped from a 3 bolt LSD to a 4 bolt for added strength plus added a 475.00 Frontline Fab rear dif cover with preload bolts. MTC (much cheaper, save money for DSMLink) :thumb:
