I had same turbo same cams on a stock 2g head and i reved to 8250 all day, and wish i would have reved to 9k at the track but didn't have valve springs installed..
. And how
Fast did you go
Like that? Back long ago my car stopped making progress at 125mph traps, I did everything, and it wouldn't go faster. Put a set of kiggly springs in, next trip it goes 130mph....after seeing that and the work that kiggly has been doing, valve springs would be my first upgrade. But hey what do I know.

Sorry Op for "thread jacking" but this seems like a good thread to ask the same for myself rather than making a new one.
What would people suggest for my setup?
7blade HX40 with BEP "Mitsu" .55ar housing
Stock intake manifold, stock 2g manifold.
BC 272/272 cams
Crower springs & retainers. 3g lifters. stock valves
stock 6 bolt block

Obviously the .55ar is going to choke my top end.
I was thinking of running it to 8000, or do you think it would still be making decent power to justify 8500?

I ran my 16g setup to 7000 on 23-25psi in the 400whp range. Lost a lot of power if i went much further

Went to the dyno shop yesterday. I went up to 7k on the first run, and it seemed to be still making power, so went up to 7,500 on the second run. As soon as I passed 7k, the power dropped off immediately, so I didn't take it any further. Here's a video of the pull:

On a MAHA LPS3000 Chassis Dyno (Mustang Dyno) @ 33psi it made:
491hp (373whp) @ 6,920 RPM
407lb/ft @ 4,825

Not fantastic WHP numbers, but I was expecting about 400-450whp on a dynapack dyno, so that sounds about right. Very happy w/ the torque numbers.

I cannot believe how long a pull on that dyno lasts - over 30 seconds @ WOT - I was crapping my pants.

Don't take it north of 7500 rpm with the stock valve springs. Also, the stock IM is really going to limit you at those boost levels (30+ psi). I noticed a huge change up top when I switched intake manifolds. I was able to run a lot more RPM on Evo 8 springs: 40+psi revving to 8700 with my HX40. They're a cheap way to eek out some more revs up top.

My old HX40 setup:
-.70 BEP T3 on a HX40 Pro
-Delta HKS 272 Regrinds
-Magnus Street SMIM
-Evo 8 springs and retainers
-38 psi on Q16
-10.33 @ 137
