Ok, my first question is Redline D4 ATF tranny fluid ok to use? I thought it was (, but now I am not sure. I have been thinking about it, am my car started shifting differently after I changed the filter and put a new gasket on to fix a leak it had. It has gotten progressively worse, and now it goes into a semi limp mode (has 2nd also, not just drive) after it warms up. I can turn it off and back on and it will shift for a couple minutes and then go back into it. The only thing that has changed is the fluid, filter, and gasket, so that is why I am asking. Maybe it isn't ok to use like I thought.

I have pulled a code before, but I cant remember what they were. I am going to drive it tomorrow and pull them and post them for help. For some reason I think it was the pulse generators codes, but like I said not sure. I will be tomorrow. But if it is those codes, what causes that and how would I go about fixing it?

I believe that the correct type of transmission fluid is atf+4. You should have used redline c+ atf if you wanted to stick with redline. If I were you I wouldn't drive your car until you had your transmission fluid completely drained and flushed and refilled with the correct fluid. I don't know if you have done permanent damage or not, maybe a transmission guru can chime in on this.

I drain what was in the pan and put ATF4+ in so I could drive it to get it flushed. I missed getting it there in time to the place for them to flush it. On the drive over there and back it acted the same way. I know there still some of the other fluid in there, but I figured it should of made some difference changing out 4.5 qts to ATF4+.

Anyways, I pulled the codes and they were 54 and 86.
54 is incorrect 4th gear ratio.
86 is incorrect gear ratio.

86 says check related code. (51, 52, 53, 54)
54 says: *check connectors of pulse generators A and B and the generators themselves
*End clutch slipping
* Kickdown brak slipping

What would tall suggest to do first? I'm think flushing all the other fluid out isn't going to make that much of a difference, but I don't know.

And thanks for yall replies.

Any suggestions? I would check the connectors but I don't know there location or how to test them and I cant find info on it.

Ok, I might have the found the locations.

Ok, since I couldn't find out how to test the pulse generators, I tracked down a new one (very hard) and not an oem one. I changed it and it didn't fix it. What should I try next? How does the car shift when the end clutches are bad? I really want to fix it, but I don't want to keep blindly throw money at it. Would putting something like the lucas fluid that supposed to keep it from slipping help narrow it down any?

is this a stock auto transmission?
Like have you rebuilt it if not then theirs your issue your old fluid had the gritty stuff in it from the clutch packs that got worn out and helped your clutch packs not slip,
Now that you have change the fluid your transmission could be slipping due to worn out clutch packs that wont grab anymore cause theirs no longer that grippy stuff in the fluid just a thought.
How did your transmission fluid look when you drained it? was it still red? or was it burnt.
This is something a mechanic of 25 years told me about auto transmissions.

I haven't rebuilt it since I have owed it, about 6 years 20,000 miles. In the mountains of paper work that came with the car, the previous owner did work on it, (trans lab shift kit, end clutches, external fluid cooler, ect.) He wasn't alive for me to ask what all he did to it for sure.
The first time I changed it, it was red and didn't smell burnt, I think there was very little on the magnets and I didn't see anything in the fluid. I changed it to fix the leak at the gasket. The second time, to get the redline fluid out, it was red and normal and nothing in it.

Thanks for the reply. What you said makes sense. Makes me feel a little more confident it might could be the end clutches. It is just that I was wrong once, so I start doubting myself.

I still haven't t it flush, all the tranny shops I called said don't flush it. But I did find out a new thing that is going on. If I have overdrive off, it will shift up and down and not into limp mode. I don't know what difference that makes.
