I rebuilt my 97 gsx motor and now it won't start. I hear the fuel pump kick on and I hear the starter click when I turn the ignition. It's a brand new starter as well. I checked all of the fuses and they are fine. When I turn the key the oil light and battery light stay on. I primed the oil system. So I'm not sure what is wrong. I rebuilt it because it sat for four years and wouldn't get any compression. I tried to jump start it but it still won't work. Anyone have any ideas?

Try a different battery if its not turning over and does the check engine light come on

The normal dash lights come on. Except the oil light and battery light stay on. The engine won't even turn over but it's not seized. I hear the starter click on the flywheel but doesn't turn it.

if its clicking, but not turning over/cranking, then id pull the starter and bench test it. then rotate the motor by hand to verify its not binding.

after that, if everything tests good, look at the condition of the wires going to and from the starter and solenoid. make sure they arent corroded, oil soaked etc, and make sure the connections are good and clean.

past that, make sure your battery is fully charged (12.5-12.7 volts)

Tested the starter and it was good. Battery is fully charged so I went and put a socket on the crank pulley and it only turns two inches in either direction. It's freakin seized up. I'm tired of messing with this engine. Time to just get a different engine all together

Don't just bail on all your work man... I've done that plenty of times and regretted it. Start with the easy things like making sure your timing is right. Could be binding up on the valves.

Checked timing and its all timed right for what I see. All markings lined up. So I pulled my cams off and just rotated the crankshaft and it turned more. So I'm not sure what's up. But I don't have the time to troubleshoot it so I'm just going to go for a reman motor or find a running one.

if you pulled the cams and the motor now turns then i would say that the valves were coming in contact with the pistons . when you timed the motor did you have the cams dowel pins facing up .

I hate to say this, but if your timing was off to the point the valve were contacting the pistons when you turned the motor by hand, and you tried to start the car, it's likely you damaged the valves. The starter has enough torque to slightly bend them, especially if the piston had momentum. Can you try to upload some pictures of your timing marks and maybe we can help? What was done to the engine during the "rebuild"?

Check your battery and starter fuses that are in the fuse box under the hood, if it wont crank then one of them could be blown. Don't give up, a lot of people here to try to help if you try yourself, we've all been there more than likely bro! :thumb: I will have to agree that if it did turn over and got "stuck" it probably wasn't in time and I can be one to say that those cute little valves WILL bend, I have bent them just rolling cams over :/ I hope it isn't that and its just something small/simple so check your fuses.

Not sure if you have the clutch switch still plugged in, but my switch just went bad not even a week ago. It wouldn't crank, as I could hear the click near radio (started relay) but not volts at starter. So I just disconnected it for the hell of it and boom found my issue. I can only hope yours is that easy.

Now the time before this when my engine wouldn't turn over I changed my head. That issue was because I tucked a few wires and left a few grounds un hooked. Reconnected all factory grounds and boom fires right up. :beatentodeath:

But for it not to crank, their is only a few things that will do this. So start with the easiest, hence clutch switch(or neutral safety switch for auto), relay, and grounds. As your ignition switch and factory alarm will also cause a no crank also.

Good luck man :thumb:

So I missed where you said it was not turning by hand, and you thought it was seized. Sorry wrong thought.

Wish you the best of luck. Again plenty of people for help, and most have gone through worse.

and even if you bend valves itll take you two hours to take it appart another 2 to put together DONT QUIT! :) we can help

Hopefully everything works itself out once you get all the timing marks realigned. I am about to get my motor back in the car after a year on the engine stand. I swear I check the timing every time I go out and work on it whole lot easier on the stand then in the car though.
