I just purchashed a 95 eclipse and it came to me in a state where it didnt run, whenever you turn the key to start the starter will engage for a few seconds then stop like the battery got disconnected then it goes right back to engaging, without ever turning the key off of run. Ive asked around and no one seems to know what the problem is.

There's a second starter relay under the steering wheel by the fuses I believe it's blue.check that.

I believe it's an always closed relay which means their should always be continuity so check that. And the visual inspection.

Too vague, sorry.

I can rattle off the first 50 things to check and write a book or you can just open your Chiltons guide to chapter 1 and start from the top seeing as that book has already been written.

Apologies mate.

Good luck.

I'd test injectors ,
Any check engine lights?
How many miles or km are on the engine ,
Have you checked your power transistor? Coils?
Isc?
Leaks?
Plugs gapped correctly?
Good compression?
Have you done a leak down test?
Is it possible you may have jumped timeing?
Anything happen before is started to idle like craps? Lots to try good luck

You could diagnose by hooking up a DMM to the leads at the starter. Also there are Youtube videos on simple ways to check a starter out of the car. You could just have a loose connection somewhere.

Take the relay out and shake it if there's pieces broken inside then there you go

you'll be better of just swapping relays cause its a pain in the a$$ to test relays sometimes unless you build a little rig or wrap wires around the leads to check for voltage that way,
but still a pain imo LOL always start with the simplest thing then move on to say removing the starter or say risk grinding your starter by just simply putting voltage to it , wouldn't recommend that tho LOL

Get a long wire and run it to the starter solenoid from positive battery post make sure engine is in neutral and if it keeps cranking without stopping its gonna be a relay or a short or loose connection in the harness if it still does the same than its ur starter or ur battery is too weak.

Occasionally I'll be messing around under the hood and forget to plug in the maf sensor again when I'm done. About the same thing happens.

Are the wires correctly wired as you say they are new? (I would go and double check to be 100% sure) And I would also perform a boost leak test to the car. If those are good then sell it haha only kidding.
