So I have a 2nd Gen eclipse gst and I'm new to all this. I know I need to rebuild my turbo cuz it's spooling funny. Everything is stock. What turbo rebuild kit do I need to get?

If it's all stock you need a t25 rebuild kit.

What is actually the symptoms of a "funny spooling turbo" might I ask?

A boost leak is usually a more common complaint when it comes to the "me turbos don't feels right" question.

"Feeling" a boost issue is different than sussing out and repairing a mechanical malfunction with a rebuild kit.

The rebuild would be suited for excessive shaft play, smoking, oil in places that oil shouldn't normally be. General high mileage abuse, etc.

You might save yourself a few bucks if you are for sure you need to spend those hard earned dollars on a rebuild kit or a BLTester.

Just sayin'.

Let us know.

While I'm driving my boost pressure starts to go up and 3/4 of the way when it's building up it immediately drops back down to 1/4. I don't here my bov go off when it drops, and my car starts to shudder while the pressure rises. It feels like my car starts to lag and like it wants to go, but can't until I let off the throttle.

Do you have a aftermarket gauge installed? Or you going off the cluster gauge?

What spark plugs? gap is??

Any CEL ?

Is the BOV recirculated? or open dump?

I'm going off the cluster. I know the spark plug brand is bosch, but Idk what the gap is. Idk what CEL is. And the bov is recirculated. Everything is completely stock. I haven't done a single mod yet.

2g bov are known to leak and usually are junk. 1g bov with adapter for stock 2g ucip would be a nice cheap upgrade. Sounds like a boost leak to me, search for a boost leak tester. Also o2 sensors are cheap on amazon around 30 for a Bosch for front o2. Get some NGK bpr6es plugs and gapped them to .28

Maintenance before mods always. First rule of buying any car. Oil change, coolant, plugs, wires, air filter,02 , and exhaust gasket. Also a new timing belt, water pump, and tensioner is a smart thing to do. Git r done.

Thanks for the info. What size boost leak tester do I need to get?

If you're running a failing T25 to the point where you're hearing unusual noises and boost production is effected, the turbo is junk....you need to find a replacement.

T25's are so small and turn at such a high rate of speed that any failure is normally catastrophic.

You could be simply experiencing high knock count, which will cause the ecu to drop timing and kill power and the ecu will cut boost as a last resort.

So I checked the CEL and P0170 comes up. I changed my upstream o2 sensor and erased the light, but it came back on. Idk if it's the same code, but I'll check tomorrow when I change my downstream o2 sensor. More than likely it'll be the same code.
