I know this is a common one, but I have a very specific result when the car trips PO300 code.

Info: Car is a 95 Talon TSI AWD. Has a 6 bolt swap with the 1g long wire CAS, 14b turbo, eprom ECU. Basically all stock setup just a mutt.

The issue: Car runs great. I use it as a DD. Because of traffic, I drive the back roads in the morning and highway in the evening when I come home. First thing in the morning about 10 miles down the road about the same place it drops the number 3 injector and throws a PO300 code. On the way home I'll be cruising down the highway and again at the same spot it will throw the code and drop #3 injector. If I plug in my pocket scanner while driving and clear the code, shut the car off and back on again real quick it will run fine all day long without issue no matter what kind of driving I do, highway, traffic or in town. If I just shut the car off and on again it will run ok for a little bit then randomly drop the injector (with engine light still on). Only with that combo of clear code shut off and back on does it run fine the rest of the drive.

What I checked: Plugs and wires are new, o2 sensors new, transistor pack bench tests good, compression good, boost leak check to 40 psi good. New walbro 255 pump, new filter, timing set to 5 BTDC.

I'm stumped on this one, the car runs great, but every day to and from work like a clock it throws this code and the #3 injector stops firing or visa versa., no signal at the pigtail. I just don't get the injector dropping out and throwing that code. Then when I clear it it can drive coast to coast without issue. And I can stop and get a sandwich and it will still be ok, it's like once it had a few miles to wake up and get over this code it can go all day.

Any thoughts on what's killing signal to the injector and throwing the PO300 code?

Although it is an Eprom computer, I do not have it socketed or hooked up to DSMlink software to do that.

Is that my only option on this?

As far as I know yes but not positive on that. And you may need to invert the CAS signal. With the 6 bolt swap and 1g CAS you need to set it to ignore random misfires. It's a common thing and will happen pretty regualarly and like you said when the code is cleared it will run fine but it always will come back.

Makes sense. Why just the #3 injector?

Looks like I might have to invest in DSM Link.

Thanks!

The 1G CAS is not compatible with the 2G ECU's misfire detection circuits. This will show up as false misfires. The ECU will then disable the injector on the cylinder that it thinks is misfiring the most. It does this to prevent overheating the catalytic converter with too much raw fuel.
The ECU will only check for misfires under certain conditions. One of the conditions is a 300 second, closed loop, highway cruise. It will not check for misfires at idle or WOT.
The solution is simple with ECMLink...just disable misfire detection
Without ECMLink, you can add a 10K potentiometer to the barometric sensor wire. Do a Google search for "Magnus Motorsport 1G in a 2G". Scroll down to the troubleshooting page. That will explain how to add the 10K pot.

Nice one Jim, I was about to post that pot mod too. Just to get by, you could do that OP.

Another way is get the Kiggly crank sensor, so you don't necessarily need link. Just another option.

And you might actually have a bad injector, try moving number 3 to a different spot. Ive never had a single injector problem with the swap, just the random misfire now and then, and not often either.

I had the po300 code and I did a tune up, new fuel pump/ filter and it went away... I also had 7 bolt top with 6 bolt bottom
