Hey Guys,

A little history..

A while back I was having an issue with lifter tick,
added some engine restorer and it went away!

I changed my oil recently to Mobil 1 Full Synthetic,
Using a purolator filter and a can of Engine restorer.

I get this ticking noise, it's kind of like my lifter tick before, but before I bore you with a ton of text, here are some videos!

It just sounds different, and I've noticed my belt is flexing a little bit. Thinking it's the tensioner failing.. Any thoughts are appreciated!

Thanks for all replies!

That sounds like really bad lifters imo I would never use anything except oil in an engine as every by product is just a temporary fix and can make things worse. You can try some thicker oil if youre really set on making the noise go away. I'd reccomend Rotella T6 synthetic.

Thanks for your reply,

I hope it's the lifters!
Could a failing tensioner or loose tensioner cause this noise?

I was tightening the slack on the alternator belt to fix the squeal, that's when I really noticed this noise!
Before with just the lifter tick it sounded like it was coming from the back side of the head, this sound is in the area of the alternator belt tensioner, so it appears.

I have a video, but my work just blocked youtube, awesome!! They must of not liked the 3 video's I just uploaded!! Public wifi ftl!!!

maybe a collapsed lifter. switch to the 3g revised lifters. stock has a 1mm size hold and 3g has 3mm hole. oils better. if you ever take the head off. do the oil port mod. as to the engine restorer part, it won't help.

Thanks for your reply!

I've been planning on doing the lifters for a while now, I really hate winter, or it would have been done already!
I will order a set of 3g revised lifters, is there any specific brand you would recommend?

I've been told the Mobil 1 can cause this tick, only reason I'm using it is because I had to do an oil change asap, and it's all I could find that was in stock that wasn't royal purple. "lesson learned to order ahead of time"

I will get a better video here shortly!

Valvoline vr4 is a good oil type. used it before and it was quiet and changed it every 1200 miles or so. kept a healthy clean engine happy turbo

It is vr-1 and I have heard that they had to remove most or all the zinc. Good high end oil like amsoil, red line, motul, or brad penn should help, I personally think mobile one is water.

I'm really hating Mobile one, I get maybe 5 minutes of no tick in an hour of driving,
Since VR1 has been changed, I was looking at Brad Penn, but it's only partial synthetic :(

Amsoil http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-produ...ynthetic-motor-oil/?page=/storefront/atm.aspx
is expensive !! 11$ a quart! Danngggg!

Never heard of motul, and from looking, it won't be easy to get.

Redline is just a hair cheaper then amsoil, so I'm thinking I will go with amsoil for a few more cents. Looks like it's order only, as dealers are few and far!

I hate ordering stuff such as oil, as there is always extra fee's for the hazardous material.

Just curious why not try rotella t6 synthetic? It's $20 for 4 quarts and is proven to work great with our cars. Plus, it is a thicker oil and should quiet lifters considerably.

I'm not sure who's located by you but there's a dsm/ evo shop by me (dynotech) that orders red line in large quantities that they sell to customers.

I've been eyeballing the redlines, seems they get pretty decent reviews, and very few re-tick issues.
I hate the noise, when it's not doing it, I don't want to stop driving, when it's ticking, I get balder!

Lol, I hear ya I always felt like the tick made my car sound like a p.o.s. At one point, when I first bought my car and first time I got on it hard and tached it up, it started doing this weird stuttering, surging thing. Right at 5500, like clock work, not below so started looking for the problem. Pulled the v/c and saw one of my rocker arms popped off! When I pulled the head that lifter was frozen solid. No movement at all, and it was stuck in its lifter bore, had to destroy it to get it out.

Resolution. The crappy 2g lifters were the issue! Ordered me a set of revised lifters, bled them, installed them, drove for a few hours and wow, super quiet!
I no longer have issues with timing being pulled from knock. Never knew lifters could cause so many issues! I will upload a video here soon.
