Before anyone says don't buy it, hear me out. I had an earlier post about delivering pizza in my Tsi, and I was debating on getting a 420a as a pizza beater. Anyway I came across a 95 esi with only 95k, no rust, second owner, for cheap, and he needs to move it.
This is the problem: When he changed the plugs a few years ago one of the threads stripped, so he used a save a thread insert. When he went to change the plugs recently, the plug went in to far and the piston tapped it. He took it out and hasn't started it since. He is not mechanically inclined and just thinks the plug seems too long. Could this be as simple as reinserting a new insert? Or is the hole now too big. I have to travel an hour away to look at it, and if I can fix it on the spot I'll drive it home. If not, I'm leaving it there.

OK, a little more info. He put a new insert in because the 4 year old one popped out. He used locktite, so the insert is in there snug. For whatever reason (I doubt it's because he's using the wrong plug), the plug is going too far down. I know this sounds ridiculous, but could I add a washer/gasket to the plug to bring it up just enough? Or possibly use a slightly shorter plug?
