Will Valvoline Synchromesh be okay for my 91 manual transmission?

You will get a variety of responses. I would recommend the advice of supporting vendors that service our trans-axles. Many of them have their own write-ups on their site. Redline fluids tend to be among the most popular brands. There is even debate on which Redline fluids people tend to use as they have a variety for different conditions.

There was nothing about valvoline synchromesh, I just see alot of posts about pennzoil, didnt know if valvoline would be good since its about the same

Why could that be?
Valvoline is yellow metal safe. I havent seen any reviews on it thats why im asking. Ive seen good and bad reviews on Pennzoil and ive seen reviews on offbrand gl-5 oils but never on valvoline synchromesh

I linked that information for you so you could see what popular choices are among DSM enthusiasts. Some like synchromesh fluids and some (and most DSM trans specialists) prefer the appropriate GL rated non-synchromesh gear oil.

Just so you know, the Pennzoil and GM synchromesh fluids are "yellow metal safe" as well. The manufacture recommended gear oil for the manual trans-axle is GL-4.

None of the "synchro" gear oils provide adequate protection for our transmissions. They do help the synchronizers work better due to increasing friction, but the bearings, and hard parts pay the price.

I understand that Redline gl4 is the popular prefered oil. But im only trying to use what i can get my hands on. I dont have any places here that sell redline oil. The only gl4 oil that ive seen is a 140 weight

That was the conclusion I was hoping the OP would come to by checking out the supporting vendor gear oil recommendations. Also why many would hop on saying how synchromesh products made their trans shift so smoothly.

FYI, extremepsi will ship gear oil right to your doorstep. Most auto parts stores will gladly order appropriate oil for you as well. Redline is by far the most popular brand, but there are others as well.

The whole gl5 eats brass deal is over rated imho. I run gl5 in my car and I see no issues with eating the synchros. I've had the same set of synchro's in about 5 different tran's since 2009, with no signs of deterioration.

It is also claimed that the high pressure additives of gl5 hurt shifting performance. Well, even with fiber lined synhro's a 2600 and a 6puck my car has no issues shifting at 9500. Somewhere in one of my posts I have a data log of a pass where I go 1-2 at 9600, 2-3 at 9200, pretty quickly I might add. I also don't shim the input shaft tight as balls like most people do.
