Hi I recently bought a 97' eclipse Gs 5 speed when I first bought the car it started every time no problems one day I started it an when I was driving I noticed the heater was cold when the day before it was hot the car was running normal temp an no check engine light was on a hour or so later I was idle at a place to stop to eat while sitting in my car I noticed the car started getting hot but when I hit the gas while sitting there it would cool back down I drove it home with no problems but check engine an cold heat was still occurring I parked it an looked to see if anything was wrong all lines good I noticed head gasket was leaking an checked oil an it had plenty coolant was good as well I decided to read some online an in my Chilton book about it but couldn't really find anything next day went to start it an it try's to start but won't I thought it was battery cause everything would die when I pushed the brake got a new one today an put it in it almost started but wouldn't like the day before I was wondering if it was timing belt or what I moved the cover back an belt is still on couldn't get under it too look cause its snowing right now but I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction or have had this problem before thanks to all who reply

That was a long sentence.. needs a few periods ;)
Anyway, it's probably not the timing belt. Re-check everything. Make sure the battery has at least 11.6 volts, or it will not start. Higher is better, but anything below that voltage will cause a no-start. Also have your starter tested. Cold weather can zap power from electrical components. I'm thinking this may be related to your heating issue, could you explain more of what happened with that area?

coolant could have flooded the engine. if the head gasket is leaking that will make it get hot. some engines will shut down when it gets too hot. replace the head gasket and may as well slap a new timing belt on while you're there.

well last night I watched a few videos about 2gs not starting an narrowed it down to my spark plugs after removing them I noticed 2 of 4 of them had oil on them after cleaning them off an putting them back in the car started instantly I was wondering if my bad head gasket could be the cause of the oil on my plugs also I drove it when I got it started an the car started getting hot I parked at a near by store an seen I had bubbles in my reserve tank after reading some online i found out its a symptom of a bad head gasket i still dont have heat either but since my heater core runs off coolant from my radiator an my radiator is leaking into my heads could it cause my heat not to work? I haven't drove the car since an I'm going Tuesday to change the gasket was hoping that would fix it anymore ideas about it?

Sounds like you've answered you're own questions. Time for a head gasket and t-belt.

low coolant will be no coolant flow so the heater core won't cycle any hot coolant through it, which will mean you won't have any heat. a blown head gasket can leak oil and or coolant. pull the head off and look inside the cylinder. if there was oil in there you should have a coolant/ oil mix in the cylinder(s). get a new oem head gasket and new head bolts. flush the radiator and change the oil after its replaced
