I have a question for you guys running a twin clutch setup. I am wanting to buy a new clutch for the talon, back in 2005 I got just under 600hp out of the car with a act 2600 clutch. While I was overseas the last 5 years the car sat. since the last year I fixed all leaks, got engine running, and upgraded a lot of things. I am wanting to buy next year a FP 37 series turbo and finish it for the power I want. And about 9-10 sec passes. I have been researching about twin disk clutches a lot lately since that is my next thing to tackle. But the majority of posts I see are kind of old 09-13. I would like to know from other people's experiences what clutch are you using for these horsepower levels? How is the clutch holding up from the abuse u guys put on it? The talon will mostly be used for drag racing, with once in a while street driving, just to enjoy it. Thanks for any help and information.

I have been running a PTT twin disc for almost 2 years now. Daily Driven 2 years, drag raced, and some mountain fun. I have not had any problems with this clutch as far as slipping or anything. City driving does suck because the engagement can be harsh in the stop and go traffic. Shifting at high RPM's is smooth as butter and I'm still running a stock 91 trans. with redline fluid. I can't give you an exact H.P number but Link says about 73-74 LBS/MIN. I also went from a ACT 2600, the amount of force it takes to depress the clutch is close to stock.

Quarter Master Twin Disk Gear Drive is what I got from TMZ Performance.

I ran the qm making a little less power than you and it holds up great. I was working with some experimental clutch control that lets the clutch slip a lot on the launch. I did a lot of back to back launches on it trying to get it dialed, and once I did I did a bunch more because it ended up working great. Probably close to 100 extremely slipped lauches, and this was on a used one that had probably 10000mi on it.

The bad part of it is that they beat the piss out of the trans because they are not damped and do not have any weight to them. They also make a ton of driveline noise on decel and such. I will also say it takes a lot of practice to get good with launching one by foot. On street tires it was bog it or blow the tires off. On the slicks it was either good or bogged. Then I modified some stuff to let it slip more and it was great afterwards.

I was never good with preloading it.

Noise and street manners are not too bad, but I've always had trouble getting my car to idle well with one.

I've also ran a 2600/6 puck and it holds up pretty well. But it would slip if I got it hot. I then went to a ACT2900/6 puck and it holds but i can't get a clean release out of it so I put the qm back in. I'm gonna try the 2900 again this year with some changes to the hydraulic system.

My car is a 100% street car so I want a spring hub clutch in it to save the trans and quiet down the driveline some.

Yes, i know it's about torque i just thought it would be eaiser to say the hp range rather than torque. thanks for the replies. I called up STM and spoke to a pretty cool dude, was really helpfull. I was thinking the clutch masters fx600 then he told me he had guys where that clutch would start slipping, just could not hold alot of power. Then i found out some guy at the shop is running the ACT twin disk and he said that the clutch is holding up fine for him. just researching because a twin disk is not cheap. just want to make sure that I am comfortable with the clutch that I get because it's not cheap. also since they have been out for a while I know that some guys are out there that definetly abused these tiwn disks and can say witch one holds up to the abuse and witch wont. again thank you guys for the replies.

I like the act twin disc because it uses the round steel stands instead of the aluminum ones of the Qm, comp, clutchmasters and ptt, which get worn. BUT the act uses the 2 piece hubs like the ptt and comp clutch which tend to eat up the input shaft.

If you want to save some $$ you might be able to piece it all together. Buy a QM flywheel and discs from TMZ, then find a good used cover, floater and pp from ebay. You might have to machine the stand height down a bit to get it all lined up. but it would probably save some money.
